Hair Loss (and a not so bright moment.)
My hair has been falling out. A lot. It comes out in clumps when I brush my fingers through it. When I wake up in the morning it's all over my pillow and pajamas. My baby has it all over her. It gets on the carpet, the bottom of my shower, wound up in my vacuum cleaner... In short, it's a big problem.
My doc says it's normal- just a result of hormones balancing themselves out. My grandma said it was because my hair was getting long... hair tends to fall out as it gets longer I guess. I have an aunt that's almost completely bald, so even though my hair still looks fine I was starting to worry.
The funny thing is that it doesn't always do that. Some days, I'll barely lose any. I've been trying to figure it out for weeks. Maybe a food I've been eating, maybe stress, maybe my multi vitamin or my level of physical activity changes on those days... but the cause of it wasn't anything I could figure out.
Then it occurred to me-- I almost always pull it back. It was my ponytail. The constant gentle tug must have been enough to pull them out one by one. I've had it down for a couple days now just to make sure... and sure enough, I've barely lost any.
Now I'm just going to have to get used to having it down. How annoying.

I hope your hair has stopped falling out but I do know that the depo shot (contraceptive) makes your hair fall out in clumps. Just an FYI if your taking that to prevent pregnancy.

That's what I was going to say....you should have it checked even though I know that postpartum with everyone of my children my hair did fall out, in clumps. Also anytime I've ever had to have a general anesthetic.
Hope you get it figured out.

Can you braid it loosely to keep it out of your face?

I have that problem when I'm not taking a multi-vitamin too. It happens mostly in the summer time, when I wear my hair up in a pony tail. Honestly, I've never thought about that being the culprit, but it doens't do it as much in the winter when I wear my hair down becuase it isn't so hot!
That is too funny, but i'll bet the pony tail does have something to do with it!

My hair comes out all the time... and it IS because of something I eat.
When I was young my Mom got VERY worried because my hair was coming out and every winter I would lose so much hair you could make a Poodle out of it! It wouldn't matter if I was inside or outside all day... clumps would come out.
I'm allergic to chocolate... it was worse in the winter because my Mom would give us cocoa after playing outside. I dream about living in a Godiva store and not about to give it up.
Luckily my hair is so thick you could never tell where the chunks were coming from.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

My thyroid is fine. I've had it and everything else checked since the baby was born.

My Mom was warned that her hair would start to thin and fall out if she does not get enough protein.
I hope you are able to find the cause and thus the cure. The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

I did the same thing. The OB said it wasn't unusual after babies for moms to lose hair. The naturopath says it is a form alopecia. He suggests first testing skin for reaction to fresh ginger root. If it burns, take the sting out with whole milk(spice burns use dairy fats, not water, water intensifies it). If you're fine, rub into scalp. It stimulates follicules helping regrowth, but slows hair loss.

My hair falls out in clumps too. It's due to my underactive thyroid.
