Cold Shower Therapy
Very interesting reading. I know that hot showers aren't good for you, but had not heard of this.

I wanted to add that I remember reading in a Katharine Hepburn biography that she did this every morning.Last edited by SweetPea; 01-05-2009 at 06:43 PM. Reason: to add content

I know that cold showers are good for you. I know it, I know it, I know it.
That being said, I absolutely just cannot subject myself to a cold shower. Aside from my sensitive skin which is actually allergic to cold (I'm a freak of nature...go ahead...stone me) it's just not natural. It's SO cold! I need to be scalded by the water in a shower. Cold is just so darn...cold!!!

hhhmmm... I wonder if taking a dip in the ocean does the same thing. I've swam when it's been pretty chilly before.

I take cold showers involuntarily sometimes. Our water heater (which we will be replacing soon) is much less reliable than it used to be. And sometimes, when I wake up, there is very little hot water left in the tank. So, I start with a lukewarm shower and try to do my business before it turns cold, which it usually does quickly. Honestly, I think it is the most horrible thing ever! Especially in the winter, I notice when I take a cold shower, I am cold for the rest of my day. Maybe I've never showered long enough (as it said in the article, you are suppose to shower until you feel warm...is that warm or numb?) It's not for me, I can't wait to get a new more reliable water heater ina few months!

Hmmmm, I really dislike cold. Really really dislike cold. I might try this once a week right now and move it up to twice. I don't think I could do more than that. Brrr!

Alrighty, I did it!!! I did 1 hour on the Wii fit, then ate my breakfast, so I was good and wore out too!!
I'll just say this first, OMG, H0LY CRIIIIIIIPE, AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH..MMMMMMMMMMMMMM......THAT WAS FREAKIN COLD!!!!
However, I am refreshed, and I feel good, normally when I get out of the shower my skin feels dry and this time it does not feel that way, I am not tired as I was earlier, I'm ready to get something done!!
It is a good thing no one was home because for the first few seconds I was screaming like a freakin banshee!! someone would have thought I was dieing in there! Then after about a minute it was ok, I was not really cold anymore!
I'll keep trying it for the week and see how it goes!!
I surely do feel better though!!
and I dare everyone else to try it with me!!!!!Proud wife to Randy

We must have the same water heater because that is precisely what happens to me most of the time. During the summer time down here I don't mind a cooler shower that much because it feels great then, but no way am I doing that when it's cold out or I'll shiver all day long. We'll be replacing out water heater this year thank goodness.
On the cold water topic thing, years and years ago I remember reading an article on weight loss in a magazine and one of the biggest tips I guess you could call it was to take a cold shower or bath, as cold as you could stand it everyday. It had something to do about it speeding up your metabolism and kicking it into high gear, I wish I could remember more about it now though.

I'll do this tomorrow morning. I hate cold but we'll see how someone who really really hates cold does. I can't stand it, cold actually can put me in a horrible mood. Was talking with FIL about it and he said.. it would be nice in the summer... not on below zero days in minnesota. Laugh.

Ok, it's tomorrow morning and there is no way I'm going from my nice warm comfy bed into a cold shower. It's just not happening today. Laugh! Just the thought of it this morning make me cringe.
