Mercury found in corn syrup
http://www.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=623456
HALF the corn syrup products tested had mercury! And one-third of food products!
If there weren't enough good reasons to stop ingesting this stuff, and give up junk foods this has certainly put me over the edge. I know corn syrup sweeteners make food products cheaper, but the savings isn't worth my health.Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown

What irritates me is this whole 'we didn't know this before' deal. You'd think that when the products are created for mass consumption by anything, whether it be humans or other mammals, they'd test it for any kind of contaminants.
Mercury in anything irritates the crap out of me.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

I'm curious as to why most of the drinks with CS didn't have it, but more of the foods did. Maybe I misread the article...
It's a little concerning, to be sure.If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Yet another reason to 'eat natural'. I've been cutting back on the junk and buying fewer processed foods but still have a ways to go.
I wish they'd published a full list of all the products involved that were found to contain the mercury!

Let's then look at the correlation between products that were manufactured with HFCS and the rate of developmental disabilities like autism. It's no surprise that in the last ten to twenty years, the rate of autism has skyrocketed along with the increase in products with HFCS.
Mercury collects in the base of the human brain, which is the area that's directly affecting developmental delays in small children.
Even if you ingest mercury while pregnant, that amount will seep through your blood stream and placenta, making its way into the developing brain of a fetus.
The correlation is there!Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

My 6 yr old ds has high functioning Aspergers. We have wondered what caused it. We noticed symptoms before 2 yrs old. I drank alot of diet pepsi during the pregnancy and have often wondered if something in it contributed to his AS.

How come the FDA didn't spot this prior to giving these products the "stamp of approval"?

31 of the those foods listed have a ND next to them. Does that mean "Not Detected"?

Here's what the corn industry is saying.

I may not be impartial, but I'm not believing anything the corn industry is going to say on this matter. Esp. when other countries don't use HFCS to the levels we do in their food supply.

Well they tell you not to have diet soda during pregnancy because the aspartame also has been linked to a variety of diseases.
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame[/ame]
A lot of what's contained in several environmental biproducts and chemicals can cause a wide variety of health problems, both during development as a fetus and after birth.
They told me when Matthew was diagnosed at 2y8mo that I should have avoided fish with high concentrations of mercury. However, no one in my prenatal visits even hinted at these things as things to avoid and I had him in 1998.
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversy[/ame]
It's widely known that the preservative that was in the MMR shots is a mercury-laden preservative that was deemed unhealthy for human consumption and was removed in 1998. So there's the reason why many people didn't think that the MMR vaccination was the cause behind ASD and Asperger's Syndrome. However, they also stated that environmental effects could be a reason.
I don't believe the FDA for anything anymore.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!
