Endometrial Ablation
Dw is having some problems and her doctor has recommended Endometrial Ablation. Has anyone had experience with this procedure? She is especially curious as to how long the relief lasted. She was told it may only last six months.

I was suppose to have this procedure done....however my endometriosis had got so bad, I ended up having a full scale hysterectomy (sp? lol). My niece was also suppose to have it done at the beginning of February, ran into complications and also had to have a full scale hysterectomy, so I am sorry I can't help with what it is like.

I had a balloon ablation done years (8?) ago and it changed my life. I was to the point where I couldn't leave the house my periods were so bad. I had this done and barely have anything every month since. If she has anymore questions she can pm me. Here's a link that will let her see she's not alone and hear other peoples stories & concerns. http://endometrialablationboard.yuku.com/
I would highly recommend this to any woman who is having problems and is sure she does not want any more children.~*Darlene*~

It was the best thing that I have ever had done. I went over a year without a period, and now it's barely a day...It was a quick recovery, I basically slept the rest of the day after having it done...and then back full steam within a few days. (I was just really tired, which could have just been from being put to sleep)

I have a close friend who had this and it worked very well for her...I was given the choice of this or a laproscopic sub-cervical hysterectomy..I took the hysterectomy..best thing I ever did..it was a one night hospital stay and I only have four tiny scars...I wish you wife the best of health!..And kudos to you for being such a caring dh!!

Hope your wife does well with this. I, too, fell into the castegory where my endo, fibroids and ademyosis were just too far gone and needed a hysterectomy.
I have heard really wonderful responses from people who have had this done though.

I just had this done a couple of weeks ago! I also had my bladder put in a sling! The recovery is awesome too! It's too soon for me to tell if it works, but I'm glad I did it. I actually go for my postop appointment on Wednesday.
I've heard nothing but good things about this procedure. Even the nurse who took care of me had had it done and she said it was the best thing she ever did!

I know of several ladies who have had it done. They thought it was great.

I had one 11 months ago and am currently in my first "real" period since then (meaning the first one of any magnitude, the others having consisted of some minor spotting for a few hours). Unfortunately, it is obvious that I am developing new tumors - something the doctor thought was possibly going to occur in my case - and so will either have to have a repeat or move on to more serious surgery. I had an extremely easy recovery, and feel that the reprieve of nearly a year made the procedure well worth having done.

I haven't had one of those done. I had a laparoscopy done to see why in the world I can't get pregnant...surgeon found endometriosis and cleared it out.

I was offered a choice between ablation, likely need a repeat every 5-7 years until menopause (I was 38), or supra-cerivical lapro hysterectomy.
I opted for the latter. Best choice I ever made, even taking into consideration the ovarian thrombosis I developed 3 weeks later. That last is so rare you can't even find info online about it!
I am no longer anemic, and will not have to have repeat procedures. 7-9 days of fearing to leave the house unless I was wearing depends and had taken massive doses of ibuprofen, are now 1 day of mild spotting and no pain. The surgery was same-day. Back to light activity in 3 days, full activity in about a week.
