Homemade cough syrup & remedies?
Ugh I have a horrible sore throat and cough. Any home remedies or homemade cough syrup?
Cough syrup is like $8 for a small bottle...

Sipping any liquid will ease the throat. You don't need a lot, just enough to swallow. You're trying to keep the throat moist. Also, keeping your mouth shut helps. That means talk as little as possible.
If you have crud draining from the back of your sinuses, try a simple saline spray. Usually $1 or less from the drugstore. Then you can either blow into a tissue, or let the saline clear out the path to the back of the throat. It might sting at first, but that goes away with use.Use it up, Wear it out,

We use honey to sooth our sore throats and if they are horribly sore we will sip a bit of whiskey. Cleans that throat right out!

My daughter's Dr. said that studies show that cough meds do not help. Take 2 tbsp. of honey mixed in a beverage helps better than OTC cough medication.

the whiskey has antiseptic properties also.
I've also read just eating the honey will help coat the throat too.

Yum I have some honey from the farmer's market and it is awesome.
My husband is in nursing school and one of his co-eds had a home remedy she told me.
Tea + fresh lemon juice + honey
Scientifically, the tea helps via steam and water, the honey is antiseptic, and the lemon juice is antiseptic and helps to break up the mucus...
I've been drinking it and it does seem to help but I hate having a cold.

I usually have hot tea and honey and if nothing else, it does seem to help sooth my throat temporarily.

Honey and lemon make a great cough medicine.
Ginger tea is also great for a cold, cramps of anykind, and chills. Its very warming.
Garlic is wonderful, if you can stand the taste and smell.
Cayenne pepper and tomato juice....clears sinus.
Salt water, spray it in your nose.
Chamomile tea, is great for colds or flu.
Spice plaster.....vicks rub as the base, then add spices in your cupboard like ginger, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and ones like that. Stir well in the vicks, spread on an old rag fold to the inside so it isn't on the skin and put it on the chest. This is great for a chest cold.
Dry Mustard Plaster. WARNING....this one can blister your skin, use with care!
3 teaspoons flour
2 teaspoons water
1 teaspoon dry mustard.
Spread and use like the spice plaster.
Use care with this one as it really will blister the skin if left to long. I wouldn't use this on children at all........
mix salt and hot water and gargle......
