Quitting Smoking...
I quit smoking on May 7th.Let me tell you I would rather quit drinking all over again..It is not easy. Doc put me on Chantrix. I found that if I take one as soon as I get up it works better. Did that this morning and it's working. Yesterday was really bad morning. Thank God for Troy,my best half, he is supporting me all the way and has been so wonderful thru all of this. Even yesterday morning when I was in a very horrible mood...
Anyone else that has quit smoking or quitting any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Pamela, I have been trying to quit for years. I will stop cold turkey for a few weeks, then bam something stressful happens and I start again. It is the most difficult thing to try and quit.
A word of caution, the drug Chantrix has been proven to cause suicidal thoughts. Just in our little town, 3 people committed suicide and they were on Chantrix. I would be very careful. Good luck! I am still working on it!

So how are you doing? Yes, it is a physical addiction, BUT a lot of it is mental when it comes to quitting. I have quit many times in the past. I quit just over a year ago and I think I have it licked this time. I have not bought a pack, bummed a cigarette, taken a drag on someone else's or even breathed deeply around another smoker.
Studies show that most people quit unsuccessfully SEVERAL times before they succeed.
Good Luck!Mary

Congrats and good luck. I quit cold turkey over 10 years ago. I smoked almost 2 packs a day for 15 years. I agree with savvy, it is more mental than physical(the addiction ). You just have to make up your mind to not do it and stick to your commitment.I made up my mind that I would not let a cancer stick beat me, I'm a very stubborn person. I found that drinking lots of water and chewing gum helped tremendously. You have support so you can do this. Keep us posted on your progress.

Congrats, and thank you many times over from the horribly allergic crowd. You will feel better and better. I applaude you. I am so allergic that I get sick for hours after being around cigarettes. I have to shower so I can breathe. I understand it is a hard addiction to quit after watching my mom struggle w/ it when I was a child. It took a near fatal heart attack and then some for her to quit. Try and keep trying you can do it. And last but not least figure up the money you'll save when you quit. Think of what you can buy yourself w/ the savings. Best of luck. I'm rooting for ya.

I tried to quit for years then finally for my 40th birthday (I'm 48 now) I said "that's it", put them down cold turkey and haven't looked back. Very quickly I found I could breathe better, had more energy, no longer had such horrid bouts of bronchitis, food tasted better, and of course the monetary savings was huge. I think the physical addiction is pretty easily broken, but as long as one holds onto the notion that smoking was enjoyable and/or associated with enjoyable parts of their day (relaxation breaks or socializing with others, for example) it makes it much harder to break the mental addiction because we miss what we perceive as "positive" aspects of smoking.
