Any Neti-Pot users out there?
Do you use a neti-pot?
If you have allergies and DON'T use one you are missing out on some great relief?
Being frugal I found a recipe for the powder which is nothing more than UNIODIZED salt and soda, which I knew, but the ratio is very important if you don't want the inside of your nose to burn.
Neti-Pot Powder Recipe
UNIODIZED salt.....very important that this is the UN iodized, not the kind you 'usually' use in your kitchen. (any grocey store will carry it.....costs about 50 cents)
Baking Soda
Mix these two together in a bowl at a three to one ratio of salt to soda. (IE: three tablespoons of salt to one of soda)
Store is airtight container. The recipe said to use one slim teaspoon in 8 ounces of lukewarm water. (some people say use distilled water but I never do...my water is cholorinated but no flouride so depends on what is in your water to begin with I would guess)
Since my neti-pot is about 3 ounces I use one SLIM QUARTER teaspoon in my pot. You might have to experiment to get the amt. right. If it burns/stings IN ANY WAY....you have used too much. (been there, done that, lived through it!!)
So.......for about a buck you have what the drug stores charge 6 to 9 dollars for 20 packets.

Thank you so much because my allergy/ sinuses are horrible. Some days I walk around so dizzy. I have never used a Neti-Pot before, but the first I heard was on Oprah with Dr. Oz. I should really give this a try.
Um, where do I get one at?

You can get Neti pots at health food stores. I've even seen them recently at our super Walmart.
I'll have to try that recipe. Thanks!

Ours didn't come with powder and only had directions to use a scoop (from the scoop it came with) of table salt and fill with warm water. I wonder if this recipe would work better? I'll have to try it out, thanks.

Just used mine about an hour ago. I had begun to have so many sinus infections, four in eleven months, when I started using it, and haven't had one since. I use sea salt and soda.

I have a friend that discovered the netipot a couple of years ago. He swears by it and says it has done wonders for his sinuses!

Dh and I have used one for years, and have always used a simple homemade salt solution.
Just a note for those who have never used one, it takes a little practice to get it right. DH picked it up the first time, used it and got the head angle right and loved it. It took me a few weeks to get used to it, and do it right, so that I didn't get salt water down my throat! But stick with it, and you'll eventually get the hang of it!

My sinuses are so thick when my allergies act up that the neti-pot can't get fluid into them. I prefer the Ayr Sinus Rinse bottle which squirts the water up into the nasal passages instead of the passive action of the neti-pot.
You get much better penetration with the Ayr and I haven't had a sinus infection in over a year now - and I used to get them 2-3 times a year.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

DH swears by his. I can't bring myself to use one. I've had 4 nasal surgeries and just can't get into pouring water through my nose.
We buy sea salt and grind it up very fine with a mortar and pestal and use that with a little baking soda instead of buying the packets. The packets are a ripoff.

My mother, 8 year old son and I ALL...
use them. They work great. My son LOVES his so much that if he is "especially" stuffed up, he will ask to use it MORE than the once a day we already do. Take care and God bless.

Palooka, most any drug store will carry them...Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc. and WalMart but I didn't like theirs. Too big of 'end' on it and the nozzel end goes in your nose.....so think of that when you look at them.
Ended up getting mine at Walgreens and when I asked for it the gal hadn't even heard of them and had to ask the pharmacist what they were.
They usually run right around $10 and come with anywhere from 10 to 20 packets of the powder. I saved these packets for traveling as then I didn't have to pack the ziploc that I had stored the home made stuff in and worry about it opening or getting a hole in it.
I have not had one headache since I started using it.....have had the 'beginnings' of one but then I rush in and use the pot......and it's gone!
The 'angle of the head' is like your head is lying on a pillow....this seems to help some of the people that I have gotten hooked on them. The other IMPORTANT THING......remember to breathe through your mouth. Sounds sort of simple but a friend of mine thought she was supposed to sniff it up her nose.......OUCH!

I've been using one for a few years and it's helped a lot against sinus infections. I get lazy and now use it when needed rather than daily. I just use plain warm(boiled) water or sometimes add some salt.
Have seen them at target the last dew times I was there.

I bought one a year ago from Bed Bath and Beyond but never used it. I quess I should dig it out and start using it. I suffer from horrible sinus headaches frequently so I hope this helps.
