This is starting to
get me down. I got out of the hospital a week ago.Started out an infection in my big toe. took antibiotics (2) had an allergic reaction my body rashed over then blistered. Really out of it.......... Well the toe looks great now........ my back still hurts from the blisters. Where they had the IV has been red and puffy. It was infected. I cleaned it out. It was starting to look good. Well now its infected again.I took the scab off and it started draining. Its still draining. I go back to the Dr on Friday but it looks like I'm going in sooner. What can I do to clean up this infection. I've used peroxide and antibiotic cream...........
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Fern - I do not have any answers for you, but am sure sorry that you are going through all of this crap. Take care.

I am sorry to hear that you are going through more medical crap......you have had a tough month.
I would keep using the peroxide. Think it is the best......doubt that you could stand rubbing alcohol......it would burn.
Do you have pets?.......weird that I ask I know....but I get something called Panalog ( other names for same product are Animax, Dermalone) from my vet....it is GREAT for infections. Vets have it and it is RX only. I use it all the time........(my vet doesn't know).....not cheap but good stuff. (Learned that they will use it on the inside of animals (with surgery) for healing.) Can literally heal an infected finger/toe overnight....but probably not as serious of infection as yours.
Good luck..........hope you get better soon.......TOTALLY BETTER.

my cousin after surgery would drain with saline with a syring. that helped and saved him since he is a diabetic and helaing takes much longer and a quad.

call the triage nurse for you dr. It sounds like while your body was fighting off the infection it decided to move somewhere else.. I would be affraid that your body isn't able to fight the infection. It could get into your blood stream, doesn't hurt to call!
Good luck!

I would definitely at least call if you are having drainage from an IV site.

I would call the Doctors office and see if you can get in sooner.

Hope you got into a doctor's office or to the hospital.
Tell them not to charge you this time. Sounds like something the hospital gave you. Don't mess around with it by waiting too long.--------My signature--------

Yeah, you need to call the doc. IV sites shouldn't drain.

fern, Hope you're doing better.
If you haven't already been to the dr's, I just wanted to tell you that last week I visited a wound specialist for an area that wouldn't heal on me for 4 nonths. Well they asked what I was using for it, and that was Neosprin and soap and water to clean it. The nurse said to stop using the Neosporin because while it does kill bad bacteria, it also kills the good bacteria that naturally kills the bad bacteria. She called it "Bad Stuff', and seemed more concernered about keeping the area clean and covered. So don't use it for more than a few days.
She also gave me a tube of Aquaphor to keep any more scabbing soft. She also scraped off all my scabbing, so I guess it's good that you did that.
Hope by now you're doing better. Let us know, ok?

Call the doc, fernykins. There should be another antibiotic they can try. And keep up the antibiotic ointment anyway.
