Default Hmm... I'm actually doing it!

    In 2 weeks I start.....

Karate!!! As a teen I was in Tae Kwon Do. I know, very different, but still similar. I have wanted to for a few years, and dh has always said, we don't have time.

Now that Middle age is creeping up along with my weight, and the only shape I'm in is round. Dh has conceded, he had to, he has made time for him to be playing hockey, ball hockey and some other hockey, so it's not fair to say we don't have time

So we'll see how it goes. $115 for 15 weeks. So it's affordable. And it's nothing I can't do, no special equipment required, yoga pants and a t-shirt will suffice for now. If I decide to continue I may get a proper uniform, but for now, no.

I'm excited. An hour and a half to myself 2 times a week!!

    Exciting!

I ended up registering with a different club. The initial registration was $5 more, however, the next semester would be $45 LESS from then on. So we'll see. It also said new registrations get a uniform, but I'm not sure if that is for the adults as well.

    Default Ouch!!!

Ok, so I had my first day of karate. I came home drenched, and I was stinky.

Now an hour later, my legs feel SO weak! My arms are achy. I know I'll be heading to the pharmacy for Advil tomorrow..lol.

All whining aside, I loved it! I'm sure the extra weight will come off, or some of it, 4 hours a week. I found out I CAN run for 5 minutes. NOt fast, every one passed me, but I didn't quit!

Ironically, other than the head Sensei, I think I am the "senior" in the crowd! LOL at 36. Most couldn't believe i was "that old".

So its started! And even though I'm going to be sore tomorrow, and even worse the day after, I'll go back and do it all over again . This is good for me. Oh, and I was told I don't punch like a girl.... ask the sensei with the black eye (oops). I had to correct my stance, but I punched fine. And the man in front of me didn't..lol Irony irony.

well off to bed. I don't know if I'll be able to lift any children tomorrow we might need to find a way for them to climb into high chairs and onto change tables, cause I don't think I can lift, or if I go to the floor, not sure I'll get up

Ok, after taking last Thursday off due to injury.(torn stomach muscle, likely a re-injury as it is commonly injured during pregnancy and labor) I went back today. I didn't do any leg raises or anything that would work the abs as it is still on "bed rest". But I did running, stretches, and I felt pretty good.

Apparently I'm alot of fun to spar, because I "talk my opponent to death". Then when I get over that, the older guys in the group think I'm pretty "feisty" and spend the rest of the time laughing at me. I did shock the one guy, he kept doing kicks etc. So I decided to give it a shot. THe one thing I remember from Tae Kwon Do is kicks, so my technique was pretty good, it shocked him, my yoga pants gave "snap", not as loud as a uniform, but still.

Next week I think we get our uniforms! I'm very excited, I can look like a gomer with the rest of the class! LOL> I prefer a uniform to yoga pants, it breathes so much better.

So this is entering the third week. Results so far? Permanently tender leg muscles. Sore biceps. And a torn stomach muscle. On the scale I'm down 3 lbs, but until this past week, I wasn't really trying on the food end. Now I'm journalling. I have bought snacks for me. I love sugar snap peas. Satisfies the crunch, and sweet cravings. I have some pretzels for salt craving. And switched to tea instead of cappucino. Lots cheaper and waistline friendly.

Well, still in Karate! I really do enjoy it. Love the work out. All the sweating. I even grin and bear the sore aching muscles.

I'm a month into it. And despite working out 4 hours a week, I am not losing any weight! I am not sure what is up with that.

But there are changes. I am now able to do all the running in the class. My pace, but I don't have to walk. I am healing well from the injury. Some exercises stress it a little so I modify. My memory for the kata is getting better. Talk about unused to memorization..lol. Poor brain> i must be getting old.

I still don't care for the sparring. I'm just not used to it, no idea how to do it. It is my least favorite part of the class. They throw you in, there is no teaching happening most of the time. I wish we'd learn more technique in that. I am no good at dodging anythign. I'm pretty battered, even though it's no contact. My arms get it pretty bad, legs. And I bruise easily to start with. Oh well.

It isn't ever an easy work out, we all sweat, and the men love to grunt and groan through it, we ladies do it quietly..lol. Gender thing I guess. But my body is recovering more easily. But definitely sore for 2 days after....
