    Default Calling All Diabetics

I just went to the opthalmologest because I am diabetic it is a very important exam. They look for damage that diabetic has caused, Like blood vessels that are bleeding and cataracts. My exam shows I have 1 small bleeder and the start of cataracts in both eyes....Other then that my eyes are heathy. I recommend all diabetics have this exam since diabetes can cause blindness.

Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I agree, Fern. So many people with Diabetes (esp. Type II) go undiagnosed too.

I'm a Dad to a 9 year-old Type-1 Diabetic and the number of problems that can develop later in life if she/we don't do a good job of managing this disease are terrifying.

In addition to getting regular check ups with her Peds Endocrinologist, eye, dental, and foot exams, it's critically important to maintain control of those blood glucose readings. We struggle with this on a daily basis as just about everything, from mood, weather, growth spurts, hormones, etc. seems to have an impact. We are two and a half years into it now and trying to give her the foundation that she will need to manage it herself as she gets older. It's amazing how much time and effort is required to keep those numbers from getting out of hand. I am also impressed with dozens of children I have met who live with this awful disease. They grow up so fast and take on so much responsibility at a young age.

    Best of luck to you,

    Jeff

Thank you for taking such good care of your daughter's health. I sat next to a guy on dialysis who was 34 years old with failed kidneys because his diabetes wasn't watched closely.

Yes being diabetic is a pain.........You also can't forget your A1C check and the rest of the tests to make sure everything is still working. I know all these tests cost my but your health is more important them not spending the money.....

I was just recently diagnosed with Diabetes (Type II). I have underwent several tests and am now on Metformin to control my insulin levels. Even at the age of 24 it was hard to digest that I was/am diabetic. My life has had to change drastically (change of diet, started exercise program etc) and am just now starting to get all of the other tests I need done to see what damage the diabetes has done.
