Default Another goal to work toward!

In a little over a week I am starting Karate. We have been putting money aside every week for that. Cash That is for my me time, and fitness and health.

Now, I was playing with the dogs yesterday. I don't do that enough. I have to register in a class for the younger one to get her on track. But in watching a great dog training show, I realized, the biggest issue with the little one, is that she isn't bonded to me. So I have been doing more with them. I have afternoons while the dayhome kids are napping to do something. I have evenings. These dogs aren't getting enough time. So last night I was bringing them for a walk. The little one, Gizmo, gets lots out of a walk. She actually handles quite nicely on a walk. Bella, the older(and slightly bigger girl in my avatar), is bored. So this show is showing different things to do. Run, urban obstacles, making it fast and exciting for her.

Walking Bella is a task and a half, who needs weight training for the arms when you have an 18 lb sled dog on your hands...ugh. SO I decided to experiment. I started jogging. I'm sure I looked a fright, sandles, capris and not at all suited.

Wouldn't you know it? Bella immediately dropped to my side, stayed close, watched to see where I was going. She was barely at a trot, poor Gizmo's stubby little legs were pumping hard. Bella was amazing. It was a totally different dog. There needs are completely different. Gizmo tears around the yard a few times and she is fine, Bella needs alot more.

SO I have come to realize that this girl needs to go running. So I am working on that. The only shape I'm in at this point is round. But I have registered for a running clinic. That will start End of October, so I'll be in a little better shape after 6 weeks karate going into the running clinic . But I want to be able to run Bella so that she is a content happy pet. So she quits beating on the little one, who's physical needs are much less. I want to have a happy puppy(ies) that can behave in the house, and ultimately I'm in better shape.

I am debating about entering myself in the Resolution Run(5k run/walk)!

I have never really made any fitness goals for myself. So maybe this is one I should do. For no one else but me.

Good for you! We all need to do something for ourselves and take care of our health. I have taken Karate before and it is quite fun...a great workout. Have a great time!

Debbie, I have a green belt in Tae Kwon Do. So I'm knowing what I'm getting into. I wanted to do this 4 years ago, but dh didn't think we'd have the time to do it. Now, he says we'll make the time. The reason we went with this karate, is we were familiar, but also economics. Tae Kwon do clubs around here want $100-$150 per month. Karate is $130 per SEMESTER. So HUGE savings. They don't include a gui but that is ok. If enjoy the first semester, dh said we can get one for the next ones.

And when it is time for the running clinic, we'll do the same. I have to drop my son off at air cadets anyway not that far away, so double whammy

Only if you are keeling over on the side of the road cause you are horribly out of shape.... LOL.

FOr Bella, it will be she loved it! Unfortunately I can't go for long. My stamina is nearly 0. But I'm working on it. I think she'll be so happy.

THe plan is to take her for a morning run while dh gets ready for work. I'd be in by the time he leaves and waking the oldest 2 and have time for a shower. I know ambitious I know, but I do hope to work to that goal. It will make for a happier household overall.

Lol. Yeah, you do have to build stamina for sure. I started just speed walking, intervals, and just building up to a good run. Bella will just have to deal. Now I am out of the habit of jogging! I understand about that happier household. Good luck.
