    Question Belly Dancing?

Didn't someone here take a belly dancing class last/this year?? I just found a local Parks & Rec class being offered, it's 24.00 for 6 weeks.
    Anyone have any experiences???

I need low impact due to my knees, and it seems to be offered more as an *exercise*...rather than dancing (regular gym clothes)

It *can* be low impact, but there are different styles and some of them involve hopping steps. You should let the teacher know if you have any physical restrictions so she can adjust accordingly.

It's only aerobic if you keep moving. I took some classes and the teacher would show us a step, then stand around BS'ing before moving on, and we never really got "exercise". I hope your class is what you want.

I took it a couple of years ago and LOVED it. I would recommend that you also find a few dvd's to workout with at home. It's not easy to master some of those moves and only doing one or 2 days per week makes it impossible unless you're naturally limber and rhythmic.... I have a set of dvd's from Barnes and Nobles called Belly Dance for Beginners. It's a great set. I think you'd have a lot of fun doing it.....even if you never become accomplished. (which I never will but do love trying to do it ).

Shimmy on Fit tv is also a great way to learn new moves. I currently take lessons weekly (about $12/class) and it has significantly helped my back pain and thoracic outlet syndrome. It is mostly low impact but but let your instructor know if you have problems with any move. Each instructor is different and each has their own style so if you get the chance to take classes from others it is always nice to learn thru experience.

    Enjoy!
