    Default ER visit - ideas?

Yesterday, I got up to go take a shower before work, and
I was hit with incredible pain. Low abdomen, slightly to the right.
I couldn't sit at all as it increased the pain too much. I
tried a hot shower. I tried laying down, but unless my
knees were pulled up tight, that was too painful too. I
took Ibuprofen and Tums. I spent all morning in tears. I
figured it must be appendicitis or a cyst on my ovary. When
the pain was at it's worst, it wrapped around my
lower back on the right side also. I had nausea , no
    fever.

I went to the ER and they took blood, urine, did a pelvic,
did a sonogram, and everything came back normal!! You
do not have this kind of pain when everything is normal!!
Today, the pain is still there, but not so bad that it keeps
me in tears. I can sit, and it is very uncomfortable, but
    bearable.

I am supposed to make a appointment with my regular
physician, but she won't won't be in until Monday.

I just wondered if anyone had ideas about this that I
might bring up to my doctor when I see her.

First-Sorry you are having such pain.

Stupidly, any chance you are ovulating, and or preg. w/ an ectopic. I saw you're 56 but some women, not me thank God,but...

Could it just be a pulled muscle? I will carry big cat litter bags or move furniture and forget because it takes a couple of days to punish you.

Could you be out of alignment? I get weird pain from my cheap spring mattress and the fact that one leg is off height wise.

Sometimes past 45? we never know KWIM? But if it keeps up don't let em' tell ya it's nothing. Feel better.

I have a milk allergy (dr confirmed). While I have multitudes of symptoms, the most noticeable is an occasional episode like you described. Labor was nothing after these. Lower right, have to curl up in a ball, nothing shows up regular tests, major pain...You could see if it is the milk sugar or milk protein giving you problems. If it is the sugar (intolerance), Lactaid will help. If it is a true allergy like mine, it will not. Some people are helped by a little bit of baking soda (about 1/2 t) in a little cup of warm water.

Sorry you're in so much pain. Are you by any chance taking Claritin? Claritin does that to me.

Same thing happened to me once! I was told in the ER that maybe I had ruptured an ovarian cyst. This year I had the same symptoms and was given an emergency visit at my Gyn. After an ultrasound and other tests, I was told I was going to be treated for a bladder infection and sure enough, I felt better afterwards. Go figure...It's better to follow your instincts....I went to the emergency room once and I was given an emergency appendectomy. You never can tell!

Twisted bowel, fibroids in the uterus, lesions in the wall of the intestine, diverticulosis, sciatica. Flare-up in the digestive system from food sensitivities, kidney stones, appendicitis, inflamed ovary.
    To name just a few.
Pain is a warning that something is wrong.

Write it all down, and make sure the doctor gets the facts.
If the pain persists, go back to ER.
If you get more or worsening symptoms, become increasingly weaker or incapacitated, get medical attention.

You might get more help with your question by contacting Yahoo Answers: Health Section; nurses often answer these questions immediately and give a lot of good information. Stay on the internet with them, and you can communicate back and forth as needed.

Sure hope you are better soon!

My dd had symptoms like yours last year. The pain got so bad she passed out. Took her to the ER and she was dehydrated. I hope you feel better soon. Be sure to go see your doctor and I agree with previous posts write all your symptoms down to take with you to the doctor.

Good advice - listen to what was offered and listen to your body.

When I had pain like that (worse than labor pain) - it was a kidney stone.

Please take care and let us know.

I would still suggest ovarian cysts...I have many of them and I know that pain. Its terrible and a lot of the time the ER does not find them. I am not sure why, maybe they are to small---but I did find out they will not see them if they ruptured which is what causes the most pain so maybe one ruptured.

Thank all of you for your suggestions and thoughts!

A couple of things I will need to google to read more about them.

I am going to make a list of the problems you have had causing
the same symptoms so I can ask the doctor about them if she
doesn't bring them up, especially the milk allergy or allergies.
2ndGen's symptoms mirrored my own, so there may be something
    to that.

Maui, the ER doctor said they checked for kidney stones.

Incognito, I will do some reading on fibroids and diverticulosis.

AnW819, from your experience, after the cyst has ruptured,
do you still have pain for a few days just less severe? Or
does it normally stop after the rupture?

I will be sure to come back after I see the doctor and give you
an update. Hope I don't have to wait too long to get in after
    I call Monday morning!!!

Mahalo Surilda, we definitely want to know how you are doing and what the doctor says. Your sharing this may help someone here - it's amazing how often that works. Prayers and aloha to see you through this time!!

I dont think it is ovarian cysts but could be a torsion of the ovary or other ovarian problem. The cysts are usually when you are younger and ovulating. Incognito has a good list of diagnosis. Other possibilities a irritable bowel syndrome or I like the diverticulosis with diverticulisis-That can cause pain. Usually the sharp pain is appendicitis but it sounds like your white count wasn't up(unless it is slightly up for an early appy) . It is too low of a pain for gallbladder- the other diagnosis that causes some sharp pain. Fibroids are painful but not normally sharp pain. A pulled muscle or back problem can radiate the pain so that is also a good possibility.

It could be a number of things. UTI,kidney infection, gall bladder, or appendicitis, cysts,or shingles. Any of the above can come with the pain you described.Pain can start in one place and radiate to other parts. Hopefully it is nothing major, but keep asking questions, and or seeing doctors till you do find out. Good Luck

Ovarian cysts are most definitely not from when you are young and ovulating...I know because I do not ovulate. Ever.

When my cysts rupture I still have pain for about 3 days...but the pain gets less and less.
