Default Almost there! Getting ready for our race.

DD12 and I are leaving in about an hour to do our 5km race! Ok, it's not a race, it's a fun run/walk. But we're doing it! I'm nervous..lol. I haven't done as much running the last couple weeks. But our goal is simply to finish the race. We have done our training inside, and the race is outside it is -20º(0ºF) right now. It'll warm a little. It'll be interesting. I can see us walking alot of it, simply because we aren't used to running in the cold.

Well, better go drink a little more and get our clothing together!

I did a 10K on Thanksgiving Day. You will have a blast and if you've never done one before you will now be addicted.
I would suggest covering your mouth and nose with a scarf or something because inhaling too much cold air may give you a cough after the race. All of us who ran sounded like we had smokers cough after, even though none of us smoked.

    Good Luck!!!

Thanks! We are using scarves and balaclavas. It's hard to figure out what to wear..lol Don't want to be cold, but don't want to overheat either.

I would suggest layers but also wouldn't run in anything I've never run in before.

Okay mommy4ever - when I read the temperatures, my first reaction was "Are you out of your minds?" - but then I calmed down and the respect for your courage popped to the top!!

Very impressive move for both of you!! Looking forward to hearing all about it!!

Ok, we are back. Because we didn't train running on the snow, I wimped out and we power walked it instead. We did 5km in 50 minutes and we were warm and toasty through out, infact, we were terribly sweaty!

I enjoyed the power walk more than the run. It took me a while to be able to breathe with a balaclava on. I am a little claustrophobic so it took a little outta me there.

But we are now looking at doing a Walk for MS or Breast Cancer, and we'll walk the Resolution Run/Walk next year!

Wow and congratulations! You finished and survived which is why more than I could do. You both have every right to be very proud of yourselves.

    Thanks!

Next goal, train for a 10 km walk in May. Maybe a second 10 as well....

    I love fitness goals!

Have I lost weight? Not really, but my muscles are getting stronger, I'm not often as cold, and not as easily fatigued, I figure the weight will go. I'm averaging 1 lb a month down...lol.
