my 13 yr old - back to Hospital -long
before christmas we took in our 13 yr old son because he was still having stomach problems and feeling sick alot, nausted.
They took blood work and sent it to our oldf amily Dr. , which we thought they sent them to the Er Dr on call, thats what they left us to beleve. they thought he had maybe ulcers mostly too much acid.
anyways if u dont hear from them nothings wrong. nope
Found out today-Our old dr. who had the tests results was on holidays all this time till today . The dr on call told hubby got the results - today's results, he has as stomach infection. they put him on:
2 kinds of antibiodicts and i pill stronger then zantac.
tomorrow he goes to Paediatricians after school where she'll keep eye on , do blood work regular. The dr. said he's glad it didnt get worse over the holidays, it can be dangerous. he has really bad infection so strongest pills that he can handle. weighed today 92 lbs. poor fellow, and they thought he might have too much acid so he was on nn acid reducers all over the holidays. and we watched his diet and he had alot of blan stuff.
well the price wasnt as bad as what i thought it was going to be-$150 for all 3 meds. more to come though after a couple of weeks.
Im just glad they finally figured out what was going on with him and their right on it. There was 5 other cases in our area he told hubby(dr) of 13 yr olds that had same thing this year. Tomrrow Ill ask why this happened and what started it.

They didn't follow up to see that there was a doctor there to receive the tests!! Sounds like a major slip up - probably based on assumptions all over the place!!
I'm glad to hear that your DS is getting attention and help now!! Please let us know what happens next. Strange that whatever it is seems to be targetting 13 YOs.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Glad he's doing better. Do you have well water?? My cousins kid got an exotic tropical bug even though he never left Mi. They have flooding and it infected the well. I might be looking for a new dr.??

Hope your son is feeling better soon! As you learned "no news" is not necessarily "good news"...which is why if you don't hear back within a few days you should call them. Sounds to me like the ER doctor missed something during the exam...one would think testing on a 13 year old would be done STAT...

mauimagic- well since it was before xmas and bloodwork is sent across to Halifax not on island for those tests. u think they would think its important enough to let me know and see if I got the results any which way they can ughh
I know last year or so it was his bowels- they wernt working too good , we did get them working again , slowly and with the school coucillor we got it figured out and he was fine till lately.
frugal warrior we have town water- i asked him about the school and they all have filtered systems in them. here we buy our bottled water and use a Britia also.
mombotto- I know I should of called a week later but it being the holidays and the rule is they'll call us. so we usually wait.
Ill let ya all know tonite what the Dr.. says after the appointment.

today i had to start taking this 2 part front and end of the stool and put it on this slide thing. gross. dont get me wrong. im no wimpy when it comes to my sons stool. But 3 x ill have to do this.
On a good note since he started his meds 3 nites ago- his bowels are getting back to normal every evening like clock work or 2x. hes in much relief. poor little guy.
this is what he has: herehttp://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/hpylori/
Im glad hes accepting his new bland diet, rice milk and all.
everything from scratch, no can foods, only frozen veggies, cooked well , no margarine or butter etc. no milk, yogurt, only rice, toast, soups.

That's a really strict regimen for a 13 year old to endure. But if it's making him feel better, at least he can see the results.
I hope that he continues to improve, now that the doctors have begun an aggressive treatment of the condition. It's just a shame that he had to wait so long, and to be miserable over the holidays too.Donna

dcompton - today he was mad he asked hubby for some money for shcool lunch. we dont have it and he has food here to bring . I made him last night-a plain , no marg., dry very lean turkey thin sliced ww toasted sand for today, and rice milk to bring, 2 corn flake muffins for snacks, and water bottle, banana.Knowing hed probably only be able to eat half that.
mad as heck he has to bring it, more embarressed I belive . no kids eat hm lunches, all junk or money.
we have to wait till tuesday's check.
he slept good last night again am i ever happy about that. and no gas and pain under his ribs, so it must be helping and no bad side affects.
we see the Dr. next week. hopefully she'll let him have normal milk and pasta. son doesnt care about the no spice rule .
