This is not a
good thing. My kids are always telling me to wear my shoes(I'm diabetic) So I'm wearing my shoes and I step on a piece of glass it go straight into my shoe. I didn't feel it. This happened Dec 26. It won't stop bleeding so I go to ER. I had to stand for an hour before I was seen. It seems the ER is an outing for the family. Everybody was there with their family and friends. Well they gave me antibiotics IV and I saw a wound Dr then they tried to give me an oral antibiotic that put me in the hospital even those I told them I couldn't take it. They did change it. I've been to the Dr's since. but I still have one area that is still bleeding. I have been trying to stay off of it but I can only lay down so long. I am going to see my Dr again. Its just not like me not to heal.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

So sorry to hear that. That's one of the worst part of diabetes...not healing.

I am also a diabetic and have recently had a foot wound which required weekly visits to the wound specialist for four months.
*First, they advised me to keep the area as dry as possible. No peroxide, no antibiotic ointment, no soaking it in anything.
*Second, keeping my sugar as close to perfect as possible was especially important. I know it is always important, but he said it is even more important when you are healing.
*Third, he also had me off of my foot as much as possible. I was in a boot, not allowed to drive, and all of my activities were brought down to a bare minimum.
My injury was only 4 centimeters in circumference and 2 centimeters deep at it's largest point. However, it took a skin graft, the boot, weekly cleanings, and keeping off of it in order for it to fully heal
If you do not begin to heal, I would highly recommend seeing the doctor.
I will be praying for your speedy recovery.DD (19)

I second what neeley said. I just got done having both of my big toes treated by a wound specialist, I had issues with planters warts that went nuts. I had both feet in boots, skin grafts done, and collagen(sp) treatments done. Other than prescription stuff that was put on my toes I wasn't to use anything other than some vaseline to keep the prescription stuff from damaging my good skin, and then again to help keep the area from becoming dry when I needed the collagen to be able to disolve.

This is a really good wake up call for all of us. I truly never realized the depth of such diabetes related injuries. Please take care and follow your doctor's advice and go back when needed. And please let us know how your doing.
This should be required reading for prediabetics!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Thank goodness you had the shoes on! I wouldn't want to know what it would have been like if you had been wearing thin soled shoes. I hope for your speedy recovery.

I went to the Dr tonight. I ended up with a shot of antibiotics and a tetnus shot. I also got a script for 2 more antibiotics. They will be sending me to a wound specialist. Of course I am doing everything right it just doesn't want to heal. I also made them write down the name of the antibiotic since I had never has it before and have ha some server reactions to them.
