Morton's Neuroma or Morton's Foot
Has anyone here ever had either of these conditions??
My story:
I've always been one to fall and sprain my ankle. It would always happen when I would "roll" my foot. I even went so far as the tear ligaments in each ankle at one point or another. Left foot had to be surgically repair. Right foot I had to wear one of those big black boots at my wedding, how mortifying! I just thought I was clumsy.
Early summer of 2009, I started having severe pain in my left foot, specifically the top and outside near my small toe. I went to my family doc he thought I'd broken it. X-rays were negative. Sent me for a MRI, negative for breaks and stress fractures. Basically told me to give it time.
By September 2009 the pain wasn't getting better so I went to the ortho that had previously treated my ligaments issue and had done my surgery. He immediately tells me that he sees that I have Morton's Foot. He also suspects that I have a Morton's Neuroma and possibly a stress fracture. He tells me that the MRI ordered by the previous doctor would not have shown a stress fracture unless it was well on it's way to being healed. I sure with I'd know that before my $1400 bill!! Regardless, he orders a bone scan at a much more reasonable price of $160!
The scan come backs clear, no stress fractures. He tells me the problem with a neuroma is that they are tricky little suckers and often don't show up on tests/scans and can only be seen by the naked eye after opening up the foot.
Where we are today, over the last 6 weeks he has been trying cortisone therapy to reduce the swelling. That hasn't been working. He is going to order a copy of the MRI from the other doc and see if the neuroma is there. He said the other people were looking for stress fractures and may have overlooking a neuroma. Normally at this point, we would send me for an MRI, but at that price he will just review their scan.
By the end of the week he will let me know what he finds out, but we may end up in surgery, yuck!! I've looked online at the surgical options and neither looks like fun!
I just really needed to get this off my chest. Sorry it got so long!Working on Our Debt a Day at a Time:

I had the neuroma about 15 years ago. I could actually feel it, it was like a marble stuck between my toes. I stopped wearing heels and dress shoes that pinch my toes and it went away in about 6 months.
I have arthritis there now, probably as a result of damage from the inflammation.Use it up, Wear it out,

Sincerely hope it's as simple as changing shoes. Fingers crossed no surgery.
Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Morton's Neuromas
Yeah, awful pain, I had Morton's Neuromas in both feet at once, excruciating. Cortisone did not help, neither did sneakers. I chose to have the surgery to remove them both at once even though warned by many that the outcome is not always ideal. Well, pain was too great to bear so I did it. True outcome is not ideal, to say the least, but the pain before was too awful to stand. So I do the best I can w/sneakers, flip-flops, hiking boots, had to give up heels, have orthotics, etc. At least I'm able to walk, hike, etc. My ankles still roll over and constantly feel like I'm going to break or sprain them. I just try to avoid uneven surfaces when walking. I hope you have success in your quest for success. About 10 years prior to the MN's, I had bunion surgery in both feet, which I thought was huge success for awhile. Later I came to believe that's what might have caused the MN's as my feet were not hitting the ground properly after the bunionectomies. Enough said?

I read some where earlier that the Morton's Foot makes you feel like you are walking on ice skates and I couldn't have said it better myself.
My pain is pretty bad today since the doc examined and probed a bit. Ouch!!Working on Our Debt a Day at a Time:
