Speaking of diabetes
This is an update on my foot that I cut Dec 26th,09. The wound specialist told me its not healing at all. So he is going to treat it more agressively. This is so much fun..... Just a reminder everyone with diabetes to take care of your feet

Mahalo Fern. What does he mean by more aggressive treatment? I really appreciate the warning. Please let us know what's going on with your treatment, your foot and you.

Right now he will use this medicine that is surpose to stimulate my skin to become healthly. Its not producing the stuff you need to heal. I will see him twice a week and when I go Thursday I will ask him what they will do if it doesn't heal. He told me by 3 weeks it should have healed. Which it is not. Also my foot grew a calus around the wound so it will not heal and since a calus has a memory it keeps coming back after he removes it.

Well I went to the Dr today and when he removed the packing he found pus. Not a good thing to find. So he cleaned it all out and I will see what happens on Thursday. You know I've been dealing with this for almost 3 months now. So now it is starting to show an infection. You would think it would have shown something a lot sooner. It kinda scary.

I just went through something very similar. It took almost 3months of aggressive treatment with a wound care specialist to get my toe to heal. I spent basically that whole time pretty much on bed rest, as I had instuctions not to walk or stand any more than was needed, had to wear a special shoe to offload my weight when I was standing/walking. I had to treat the wound with a cream to stimulate healing, didn't work, then I had to have 3 skin grafts, followed up with several cologen treatments. My issue stemmed from a blister. I now have to get custom made inserts for my shoes, they are recommended by my Dr. to prevent me from getting pressure sores/ blisters on the bottom of my feet. Gets me that my insurance doesn't cover those, they cost about $500. Seems like them covering something that could prevent paying for a wound care specialist again would be in their best interest. The skin grafts cost close to $10,000.

I was told just because it looks like there is no infection doesn't mean there isn't one. Dr's not saying there is no hope it just means they have to work harder at healing it. I'n just tired of laying around. I'm not very good at that........
