    Default Poison Ivy = ITCHY

Stupidly, I helped clear out a felled tree after this windstorm. It was a poison ivy harvest. i'm covered with the rash from head to toe and my eyes look like i was punched.

To make matters worse, I'm stuck at work for the next 14 hours.

    I am so itchy!!!

    Oh darn!

I hear vodka helps it though, once you can get out of work.

Calamine lotion is supposed to help.

They also have a shot that they can give you to help.

I would get something on it as soon as possible.......and you can spread it by itching........ DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EYES!

You poor thing. I hope you can resist the itch. Personally I have never had it but a guy I worked with did and he swore by clorinated water from a pool or hot tub. May you have relief very soon.

Oh no! Poison Ivy and I have a hate relationship. I hope you can find some relief & if need be head to the docs for some help. I'll be doing just that if I ever get a bad case again. Take good care!

Check the pharmacy. They have a special soap in a squeeze tube (they keep it behind the counter) that requires a long shower and you wash with this soap - sorry I don't recall the name, but they will know what you are asking for. Works VERY well to get rid of it, along with Calamine, or other topical applications.

Our daughter uses a bar of homemade lye soap. She works up a foam and applies it to the affected area and lets the foam dry, which dries the poison ivy. She is also known as the Poison Ivy Queen in the family.

1 cup proxide, 1 teaspoon bakeing soda, a couple drops of dawn dish soap. You can use a cotton ball but I put it in a spray bottle and applyed as needed. This also works to get rid of skunk on the pets...lol

OH arrrghhhhh!!! I am so sorry to hear that!!!

I've had it, my mom had me do vinegar soaks. Soak wet rags in vinegar and lay them on it.

Here's a list of home-remedy type things to do, maybe see which ones help you as I'm guessing different people respond to different treatments.

I would suggest a visit to the doctor if you are covered "head to toe". That much inflammation really aggravates your immune system. A doctor can get you some cheap steroids for quick relief.

Thank you everyone. Took a trip to the doc after work. On prednisone and a drying cream. Hopefully this itch stops quick.

Glad you went and got some help, wish I did last time I had it. I just remembered something that helped me, Domeboro Aluminum Aacetate Astringent Soulution. It's an over the counter package(pricy, but worth it to me, years ago was $11 for 12) of effervescent tablets/powder that you disolve in water and can use as a compress, wet dressing or soak. It really helped with the itch.

    Oatmeal baths are nice too.

Ooh, I forgot all about Domeboro. I think I might run out and get some at least for my abdomen as that's weepy now. The pred has kicked in, I can open my eyes and they are much less swollen.
