    Default What is wrong with

some Drs? I go see the Dr 2 weeks ago and she asks how I am doing of course I tell her I'm sad. I tell her I lost my son. So whatdoes she ddo. She puts me on Zoloft. I am not depressed I am sad. As far as I am concerned I have a right to be sad. I don't stay in bed, Idon't do stupid things. I can still laugh and smile. I won't do anything stupid.
Why do theywant to put you on a pill. Why don't they want me to mourn tne loss of my son. Not everybody is depressed can't I be sad for a little while.

Oh Fern, Of course you can be sad, it's okay to mourn, and to be sad for as long as you need to. Doctors!

There's nothing wrong with being sad at all.

That said, it's been almost 12yrs since my first husband died and I can honestly say the last two years with Zoloft have been some of the best. I can relax. I'm not as anxious, worried, etc. Taking Zoloft doesn't mean you are depressed

I don't get it either...I know they only make $ by pushing pills and keeping the pharmaceutical industry going but c'mon....its ok to say no to pills sometimes.

Fern...mourn all you need, talk it out with as as much as you feel you need to and yes, be sad. I'd be worried if you weren't.

Fernykins, you are right - HUGE difference between being sad and being depressed. I think some doctors (not all, some) see mental health issues in nearly every patient they treat.

I admitted a young lady to the hospital for a serious kidney infection a couple years ago. She was crying because 1) she felt like crap and 2) she might not get out in time to accompany her family to Miami to attend the Super Bowl (and this was the year the Colts were playing - and WON!)

The doctor assigned to her case, as she did not have a family MD, came out from seeing her, wrote up her orders and I collected the prescribed meds and took them to the patient.

There were THREE psych drugs - none of which this young lady had ever been on. I explained what they were and told her she could, of course, decline them. She did. All because she was crying!

I think sometimes doctors look to solve our problems with medicine. You doctor saw you being sad and assumed depression. That being said, I was on Zoloft after DD was born. It did help, but it made be sick to my stomach. You don't have to take it just because it is prescribed, like someone else said.

Please don't misunderstand, for certain people in certain situations, these drugs can literally be life savers! But Fernykins indicated no real evidence of clinical depression. Just wanted to clear that up.

    Your doctor is a maroon.

    Fire him.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Hmm....I'm wondering if the doctor gave a strong suggestion and a prescription for the depression meds (to be filled at her discretion) OR actually prescribed them indicating she really needed to take them.

I agree though - you shouldn't have to take anything for feeling sad.

They must be getting some pretty kickbacks.

We sent my hubby to the Dr this winter for a cough. The Dr kept trying to Rx him Viagra!! When the Dr was out of the room Dr called me on his cell phone just to make sure he wasn't mixing up the names of meds. I was in tears laughing. At least DH got his cough medicine (and a push for 4-5 other drugs he does not need). I felt like it was a bad dream from clearing out my Spam folder!!

Did I not get the memo that there is a time limit on mourning? Doctors seem to push pills instead of realizing you are only human. I'm sorry for your loss. Everyone handles grief differently.

it took two years for my grief to lift. well meaning people kept recommending antidepressants but my grief counselor said absolutely not! she said - a gallon of tears out of each eye.

grief is not depression. grief is not depression. grief is not depression.

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
