Default They got all the cancer

I got home a little bit ago from having the skin cancer removed from my face. I have to tell you it was a little more involved than I ever imagined.

The spot was about the size of a pencil eraser The part you could see on my face anyway. It took about 15-20 shots of novacain to numb it up. She asked me if I wanted to see what it looked like before she closed it up. I said sure. And she asked if I thought I would pass out. No I don't think so. Well geez it was way more intense than what I was thinking it would be. The hole was about the size between a dime and a nickel and about a 1/8 inch deep or more! I didn't pass out, but wow! It looked like an empty eye socket right between my nose and lip.

It took about 45 minutes to sew it up there are a lot of them underneath and more on top. The scar is from the tip of the corner of my nose down to my lip. About an inch long.

I don't know what I was thinking it would look like or involve, I guess just a snip and two or three stitches. Nope. I am glad I didn't wait any longer and it be bigger.

Please people don't let things go and think It won't ever happen to you.

Yep! Mine was half that size, and it required 17 or 18 stitches! The "scar" was about 3 inches long down my neck. It's completely invisible now, though.

Whew, I bet you're glad that's over! Having that many novocaine shots alone must have been crazy! So glad you're OK though, and it's behind you!

I don't know why it didn't register that of course the part they cut away would be bigger to get all the margins clear of the cancer.

    Thanks everyone!

It was thank goodness some of them were done in spots that were kind of numb already. I could have had my nose and lip pierced and not felt a thing.

They cut it and surrounding skin out and then it goes to the lab and they check to see that the skin around the cancer area is clear. If not they go back and cut more out till the margins around the cancer are free of cancer.

It did make me a bit unnerved to see that big whole on my face especially since I thought more of a slit. Good thing for stitches!

Glad to hear that they got good margins and think that they got it all. If it was Malignant Melanoma make sure you go back periodically to get checked (it's really tenacious) and don't forget to wear sunscreen. Kudos to you for bravery in taking swift action and for watching them work! Take care and wishes for speedy healing.
