Shower Pouffy's
Been reading about how the plastic synthetic shower pouffys retain bacteria and are a breeding ground. What I'm failing to understand is how b/c (1) its plastic and dries out quickly (2) you use soap on it before you apply it to your body and most rinse thoroughly after using. Are there others like me out there wondering the same thing?
I've read that you can wash in hot water in your washing machine but if you're like me, you don't have any hot water loads to be done. Some even place in their dishwasher to sanitize it, again I don't use my dishwasher. So would you wash yourself then wash your pouffy after you've just used it? What if you use soap vs body washes, do you have to 'clean' it again? Some even replace theirs monthly, it is frugal enough to do so since the pouffys are about 2/$1 or $1-$2/each.
Another thing I've read that was a common problem is that there are some that use the pouffy so much that it becomes unraveled, how hard are you scrubbing? I've yet to have this happen to me.Shower Puffs/Loofahs
These implements can easily be breeding grounds for bacteria because they capture dead skin cells and are usually stored in a warm, moist environment. Synthetic shower puffs can be thrown in the washing machine and washed in hot water. Clean shower puffs once a week. Loofahs are tougher to clean. Try rinsing under hot water after every use to flush away dead skin cells, then shaking to dry. Or simply toss your loofah after a month and replace with an inexpensive new one.
So I'll be the first to admit this - I've used the same pouffy for about the last year
should I be concerned? How often do you replace yours if you use one?

I wash mine every time I use it.
I have a small basket next in my linen closet with 4-5 poofs. I use one daily, wash with towels, air dry and it goes back in the basket.

Here's the scoop on bath poofs at our house:
*Each person has their own, different color for each of us.
*We have a hook they hang on to dry in the showers after each use.
*After each bath, we rinse them out really well before hanging up to dry.
*I was them about once a month in the washer. We do most of our laundry in hot water so no issue there.
I replace them about every six months or so. Sooner if they begin to poof out too much or unravel, later if they are holding up pretty well.
So, there you have it. The life of a bath poof in our house.

I'm more of a wash cloth person OR just using my soap/body wash with out any kind of shower pouffy/wash cloth. But I do have a pouf in the shower that I like to use 1-2 times a week. I got it in a christmas basket. It's already come unraveled once but i wrapped it back up and tied it again. I'll probly get rid of it at the end of summer OR if it becomes unraveled again. I usually replace them once or twice a year if I have them.

I recently went back to using a wash cloth. I found the poofs were too rough on my skin.

If the plastic is IPA safe, you could just thoroughly rinse with IPA once a week or so.
