alternative medicine
I woke up this morning with a KILLER allergy headache. My sinuses inflammed and swollen & filled to the point where the pressure from it felt like my eye balls were going to pop out of my head and shoot across the room. The pain started at my eyes, went up my forehead and wrapped around the back of my skull. If I had not known it was from allergies I might have thought I was having a stroke. The pain was that intense.
Nothing short of massive pain medication would have touched this headache, and I'm not talking Advil. I decided to try pressure points to relieve this massive headache, and it totally worked! I still have some sinus pressure which I took quercetin for (that will take some time, and possibly several mega doses to get control of) But the massive headache is GONE, GONE, GONE!!! Amazing!
I just wanted to share with those who were open to alternative medicine. This tutorial total Rocks! I swear I feel like baking a huge basket of muffins and sending them to whoever wrote this web page!

Thanks for the info PP39.
Do you also use a Neti Pot? Might give that a try too.
Since I started using mine, I have had almost zero headaches. But, with all our rain, I have been using it sometimes twice a day this year. If I feel the first 'twinge' of a headache I pull out the Neti Pot first, to see if it will help it.

I prefer natural remedies... I had migranes for YEARS before I finally went to a Holistic physician... I won't tell you what he prescribed me as every individuals treatment is different. It worked wonders for me.
When I have severe migraines that outlive any pressure point therapy or are there after I curl in to a ball and take a nap, I take 'ole reliable.
We are changing health insurance soon. I am hoping to find a local HP because the doc I have now isn't working for me.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

FF- I've never used a Neti Pot, but I have used natural saline sprays to wash out the allergens. Hmm..maybe I'll have to see about that. Thanks!
Lady_V- I'm with you! It's very rare I use any conventional medicines. I just cringe when I see advertisments promoting chemical medications followed by a list of side effects that are far worse then the ailment people are trying to treat. Those and the class action law suits on coventional medications, eee gads, the medications the doctors peddle now a days!
I much prefer a simpler, back to nature approach. I use cramp bark to help with women's issues, that and red rasberry tea. I was headed straight under the knife if I didn't do something. It's like magic, after a few months of continued use I'm feeling so much better. I'll be able to get through to the change without surgery. Cramp bark has also done wonders for my blood pressure and Asthma, amazing stuff!
Stinging Nettles? Is that helpful with allergies or headaches?
I sure hope you find a good doctor soon, they are worth their weight in gold. I know I truly miss our old doctor, he retired. He practiced medicine from an older generations perspective. Back when your GP did all your surgeries and treated ALL maladies. Heck, he delivered my husband 50 years ago for $30!!! He was the cream of the crop.
IntlMom, Get out! How's that possible! Lucky Duck you!!!~~~

Oh yes, shiatsu is bleeping incredible! It's my first line of attack for headaches.
And for the really deep congested sinus headaches, a personal steam inhaler works wonders. Sometimes takes a while, but it's a natural clean remedy. If you haven't got one, breathing through a face cloth wet with hot water works, too.Use it up, Wear it out,

Ok the miracle drug that should work for everyone as advertised in magazines and on tv - scare the living crap outta me b/c as you said - for relief of headaches you can take this magic blue pill that will most likely definitely give you diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. So you tell me, which is worse the before or after?!
I'm trying to take only what I 'need' to and even then my sister started going to see a naturopath b/c of her health b/c the conventional health system wasn't cutting it for her. She can't eat a whackload of foods now (incl those gluten free brownies I made especially for her
). If I can afford it, I'd like to try to treat my health the same way but its too costly here and even if I was working, its not covered by most insurance companies
.
But what I was wondering - what does this 'red raspberry tea' do? What symptoms does it alleviate? And where can I find it - at the pharmacy or groc store?? Also, will any herbal raspberry tea do?
For now, I take the meds I 'need' and try to eat a diet that is wide with variety to help with health issues. (example, honey for allergies)2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Libby, Boy do I understand what you mean about insurance not covering alternative therapies. Our DS2 was beyond sick and conventional medication was not working, things were getting worse. We ended up using complimentary medicine. We found an MD here in the USA who was from Europe. He did not shun conventional medicines but believed that alternative therapies often were better, because they healed instead of treated. That said, he understood that there are limitations and conventional and alternative medicine can complement each other. We ended up $100,000 in debt, but our son is doing well now. It's hard to put a price on that.
Most herbal therapies are less expensive then chemical medications. The thing is, unlike take one pill and you're done for the day most herbal preparations require several doses a day, or other therapies that you must be committed to. Like water therapies. Herbal medications are also not like chemical medications because most of the time it's actions are gentle are require a period of time to heal. Most are too impatient for such medicine.
The red raspberry leaf tea supports the female system. It can be found in most food stores and heath food stores in the USA. The cost is about the same as commercial herbal teas, but do not confuse it with red raspberry flavored tea. The flavor is not unlike black tea, but is somewhat more earthy. The first cup may not suit you, but by your 3rd cup you get a taste for it. It is to be drunk warm. Preparation of your raspberry tea is key. You place a tea bag inside a mug and pour boiling water over the tea bag, quickly cover the mug so as not to release the medicinal properties. Steep for a full 15 minutes. Drink 3-4 cups daily, more will not hurt you. Midwives often give this to their pregnant mothers in preparation to labor. It tones the womb and eases labor, and is said to shorten labor. Of course there are those that completely freak at the very idea of giving this to a pregnant woman, but it is proven by many women over centuries. For every study that suggest this is a bad idea there's scores of studies that rebut those findings. You have to ask yourself who funded those anti herb studies.
It is often used to ease menstrual cramps and PMS. Most women use it all month long and step it up a week prior to their period. During menstruation drink freely to relieve cramps. Remember that healing your system is a process and 1 month trial is not your final result. I happen to be in peri-menopause and require more them then tea, hence the Cramp bark. I take the cramp bark as a tincture because I found the capsules just did not contain the vital components needed for my system. I have a preference for tinctures, I just feel in general they are superior to capsules in most herbal preparations. However, I do use capsules for some things because they are far more cost effective and when you must keep all expenses, even necessary medical expenses down it is the way to go for most things. Keep in mind that teas are highly effective and economical. I would strongly suggest that if you have a China Town in your area to seek out an herbal shop, for any ailments you wish to treat. Often there are very knowledgeable herbalist who are more then happy to share their knowledge and help you make the right choices for you. While raspberry tea & cramp bark are UBER safe, certain herbs require a bit of knowledge some herbs are warming, some cooling, some can be taken during menstruation, others not. It's best to consult someone in the know. If you have questions feel free to PM me.~~~
