fructose
I think I need to add "low fructose" as another dietary / lifestyle change. I have been having frequent gout flares lately and am on the road to metabolic disorder.
I've been off soda (maybe 1 - 2 times a month if eating out) for some time now. I do drink 100% fruit juices, but I cut them 1:2 or 1:3 with water. Maybe I should add a soluble fiber / vitamin supplement to the juices.
I need to stop raiding the coworkers candy bin.
I've also lost 10 lbs in the past month.
Does anyone know of some good hard core physiology sites to learn about nutrition and gout? I'm a chemist by profession - I'm good for the medical literature, I just have not been successful in finding much. Sometimes it seems like there is too much information available and my search fu is poor.

mek - first of all, congrats on losing 10lbs!!
Have you tried researching the diabetic diet? Its not a plan like 'southbeach' but its more of a lifestyle change. That will help you eat more whole foods, whole grains, lean proteins, low fats and low sugary foods - less refined, processed etc. It also educates on proper portions. You could be eating fine now but not the right portions?2012: The Year Of The Purge!
