    Default Hypothyroidism and Soy interaction

So for years I have had issues with my Thyroid medication. Every time I go to the DR. he changes my medication. I have been asked if I was taking 2 pills a day and if I was taking any at all.

About 3 weeks ago I finally found out the issue. Apparently Soy can interact my my medication and basically negate it.

I am lactose intolerant and drank Soy milk for years. I eat soy ice "creams" to boot.

I cut out soy and can tell a remarkable difference in the 3 weeks so far.

Just thought I would share with you guys as maybe someone else was having the same issue.

Yeah, I hear Soy and thryroid issues don't mix well.

Have you tried rice milk? They even make rice 'creams.' Pretty sure. I prefer rice milk over soy.

    Glad you figured it out.

Rice Dream is my favorite. I didn't realize they have so many products out now.

I just learned this a few months back too. And am totally amazed at all the things with soy in them!!!

Read the labels very carefully....it isn't just milk and ice cream.

Other things can react the other way......allergy meds., some pain relievers, ....and these were never mentioned by my Dr. NOR were they on the rx list.

Thanks for the info. I am going to have to read labels a little more carefully.

well I knew that some meds really interacted. Benedryl in particular is horrible. It runs my BP up so high that I have to lay down. I just never thought Soy could do anything.

One of the funny things was that I was increasing the amount of soy in my diet!! Because as we all know soy is good for you.

I had switched to the Lactose free milk a few months ago, so that the Cat could have some. I have tried the rice milks and i don't really care for them to drink, but that taste really good to cook with.

I went to get ice cream yesterday and finally gave up. Several of the things I really liked had not only milk but Soy as well in them.

I have some of the Lactaid pills that I am going to try and maybe just get a better quality Ice cream. Its not like I eat it every day so it won't effect the budget much at all.

My oldest has hyperthyroidism and I wondered if the soy interaction would be an issue later on. I've been debating talking to the doctor about something to help because he's growing way too tall way too fast.

I'll keep the soy thing in mind.

    I'm glad you're feeling better.
