Default I did something to my thumb...

I am not able to get into a dr. until next week so I thought maybe someone would have some suggesstions here. I don't remember doing anything to my thumb but a couple days ago it started to click when I bent it. Now it clicks when I can move it all and you would not believe the pain. The pain is in both joints, which are swelled and goes into my wrist and up my arm part way. I even woke DH when I bent my thumb while I was asleep. So I have started wearing splint to bed at night which isn't helping except I don't bend it. The weird thing is a couple months ago I hurt my ring finger on the othr hand at work when a stck came up and snapped it. It started to click also but it doesn't hurt as bad. I DH he should have married a newer model that wasn't falling apart lol. Thanks

Take some Ibuprohen (Advil), an anti inflammitory. I sure that will give you some relief.

I have been taking 800 mg of motrin 3 times a day but will have to change to something else since it isn't good for my blood pressure. It isn't helping anyway much to my surprise. I figured it would at least take the edge off.

I'm don't pretend to be an expert nor do I play one in real life but is there a way you can splint/immobilize it to give it a rest for a couple days? If I were your thumb I'd just like to chill in a click free zone. Speaking of Chillin', might be nice to ice it down every now and then.
    Hope you feel better soon.

    Rest it
    Ice it
    Continue with anti-inflamatories

The thumb is an intricate joint where it attaches to the hand as the shape curves in two directions like a saddle. You could have a problem with the surface of the cartilage that is causing the clicking. Pain tends to be referred away from the body so the second joint may be experiencing that from changes in the first joint.

I would recommend a referral to a hand specialist from your primary doctor.

    good luck

Thanks. I have a splint on it until I can get to the dr and Ice makes it hurt alot worse. I hope I dont' have to go to a specilaist since I haven't any insurance. I have been avoiding using it whenever possible. Trishagirl... what is Unkers?

Make sure to wear gloves when you go outside. A couple of years ago I noticed pain in my fingers especially thumbs after taking my walks in the morning. I made sure to remember to wear my gloves during the walks which really helped.

Don't know if it will help but you may want to try wearing gloves around the house to keep you thumb warm. If you house is cool like mine I can feel the chill in my hands.

Hope you can get some relief. You could try and call the doctors office explaining what is going on. They may have a cancellation and you could go in earlier.

WellI was able to goto the dr today. they worked me in. I have an inflamed joint and tendon. He gave me a shot in and around he joint so we'll see how that goes. While I was in there he redid my meds that the FP ad changed. He was the one who originally game me the scripts. He is so well liked that rarely can you get into see him unless you make appointments way ahead. ( I have one now with him in three months.)
The FP had changed my thyroid meds which ended up making me feel like a slug and my joints hurt again. And she changed my BP meds so now they aren't working like they should. Hopefully I'll get back to my old self again. I have been going to this dr for more years than I can count so he knows my history and I trust him. There aren't very many drs around here except for specialist (there's tons of them) so I really don't want to change. He has been known to make house calls if need be too.
