    Default finances and your health

I blew the budget this pay period. Didn't plan so well for all the extra expenses of guests for Thanksgiving and black Friday. On second thought , I should have skipped black Friday.

Now it's three days until pay day and I have 15.00 in the bank.
I'm not including savings , just checking.

It's always the way; when we haven't any money the family gets sick. All four of us are battling some sort of nasty cold. I didn't even want to spend the money on a box of Kleenex. Today I had to give in and get us some NyQuil. I know it's not a lot of money but the point being I should not have let it get this close. Yes we have emergency funds and I suppose this qualifies as an emergency but still.

I really can correlate a relationship between finances and health. We really do get sick when funds are at the lowest, every time. I wonder if there is any scientific evidence of this?

I'm not sure, I wouldn't doubt it. Then again, who isn't broke right now? With Thanksgiving meals, traveling and holiday shopping I kind of figured most people were stretched. We got paid this morning and we definitely were strapped.

You have to consider also that with visiting family and then shopping on black Friday, you were exposed to quite a few people during cold and flu season.

    I dunno, coincidence?

I know that, back when things were out of control for me, when I was closest to zero, I would get stressed and sick. I've read that being stressed can affect the immune system so it makes sense that being worried over money would make it easier for me to catch whatever cold was going around.

Sorry to hear that everyone is sick. Hope you feel better soon!!

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

Definately know what you mean. The same thing happened when I was sick in the summer. Also I had the same box of band-aids for years. One day I managed to cut my finger really good. So I go and get a band-aid. Only to find they are not big enough and I need a lot to change the bandage. So I end up going to CVS about three times until I finally went to the hospital to get the bleeding stopped.

All the time I was upset since I wanted to stay on budget and not spend any extra money.

I currently have a nice stockpile of band-aids of various sizes. Including sponge bob. lol

I think it does affect our health, and not in a good way. I hope you feel better soon.

I have this thing where I hate, No H-A-T-E to do without and suffer. Not sure what that's about, but I hate it so much that I always cover my bases as much as humanly possible. I buy medicine clearanced, on sale, throw in a coupon and sock away in the hallway cupboard. I have all kinds of RX stuff in there. It has served us well over these past 3 years. Maybe you could find a small space to store an RX box?

I'm planning on filling a tote with canned soup, gatorade, jello cups, pudding cups, ice pops, crackers, some ginger snaps, ginger ale & coke for when we get hit hard around here. I don't have a car most of the time, and when I've spent the food money for the week it's gone and I won't be able to get these things. I figure it will help me in the long run because, we will get sick. Never had a single Winter when we didn't.

    feel better.

nothing wrong w/ spongebob bandaids!!! we have those along w/ barbie and dora and diego as those can always be found on bargain sale at either target, dollar store or elsewhere!

stressful times do make illness kind of pop up. that is true. and holiday time we are around more people (GERMS...) and dont get the proper amt of sleep either, so that adds to it! hope you all feel better.

    .
Funny thing is I did do this. I had so much that it was expiring and I started giving it away. Now it's all gone and I didn't even realize it. On the upside I have enough children's couch syrup to last until they go to college.
I also have plenty of sponge bob, Barbie, Dora, and hello kitty band aids to last just as long. Sadly the band-aids do nothing for a stuffy nose. Seams I'm always prepared for the wrong disaster.
