quote from the process on their web site The basic process behind BPI's product
Many things that are GRAS, I wouldn't want in my food , just saying. I am responsible for my and my families health and I love making things from scratch for us and our health. I am a researcher and won't even get started on the food production in our country, the general populations health and the standards we as a country have lowered our food to. Your health is your first wealth ! No thanks to the ammonium hydroxide for me and mine! As I tell my family and friends research and be healthy. Knowledge is power. Blessings all.

Just had to add many of the ingredients considered "safe" in our country for food or cosmetics have been banned or not used in other countries.

Household ammonia is dilute ammonium hydroxide, which is also an ingredient of numerous other cleaning agents, including many window cleaning formulas. In addition to use as an ingredient in cleansers with other cleansing ingredients, ammonium hydroxide in water is also sold as a cleaning agent by itself, usually labelled as simply "ammonia". It may be sold plain, lemon-scented (and typically colored yellow), or pine-scented (green).

In industry, ammonium hydroxide is used as a precursor to some alkyl amines, although anhydrous ammonia is usually preferred. Hexamethylenetetramine forms readily from aqueous ammonia and formaldehyde. Ethylenediamine forms from 1,2-dichloroethane and aqueous ammonia.[4]

In furniture-making, ammonium hydroxide was traditionally used to darken or stain wood containing tannic acid. Tannic acid with ammonium hydroxide or iron salts creates a brown stain which can be applied to wood. [5]

Ammonium hydroxide is used in the meat packing industry. Some companies treat their beef "with a pH enhancement process that forms ammonium hydroxide in the finished product."

The part that grossed me and freak me out was "used in baked goods, cheeses, gelatins, and puddings."

I'm beginning to wonder if any food is safe even homegrown ones are noted as being unsafe based on the land/water in the area

Your body makes ammonia but if your levels get too high it can cause problems. But I think the less we eat out the better we will feel. I make dinner every night and the kids eat cold cereal and one of the two eats school lunch, I try to make sure they eat healthy but sometimes is easier said then done.

"And this is one of the big reasons I started our family eating whole and local foods! I buy a local 1/4 calf once a year (may go to 1/2) and they have it butchered locally. The cattle are pastured with just a little grain to supplement natural weight gain in order for them to be slaughtered by the time they are 21 months in order to avoid Mad Cow."

I did the same thing- found a local rancher who raises grass fed, hormone free, cattle and uses organic practices. So far we order ground beef, and when I can save up a little, I will order more steaks and whatnot. It does not cost much more, they deliver to my home personally and it tastes so much better!!
