    Post About broccoli

This article is about broccoli having several benefits - some of which I did not know! There's even a tasty recipe I'd like to try at the end for broccoli/lentil soup. Did you know broccoli has protein in it?! Is this the next (but not new) 'miracle/super food'? I love, love, love broccoli!

All veggies have protein. In fact 500 calories worth of peas have 33 grams of protein and 500 calories of pork has 34. Notice I said calories not ounces. So yes you would have to eat a LOT of veggies

You can have all my broccoli then.....I don't care for the stuff at all. To me it's tiny landscape...fairy trees ...and that's all I can find redeeming about it.....lol...did I mention that I can't stand broccoli? Sometimes wish I did like it because there are so many frozen dishes that I think I'd like to try till I see that it has the dreaded "B" in it.

That recipe does sound good. Big broccoli fan here too and oh so glad it's super easy to grow in the garden. After you harvest the big heads, smaller stalks grow and you can eat those too. No fuss no muss easy harvesting.

When I was a Vegan I went to the doctor for something and saw the nurse practitioner. She said, "how do you get your calcium with no dairy?" I said I eat a lot of broccoli. She literally pulled out some book from her coat and said, "oh yeah, broccoli has a lot of calcium."

    *snort* Such a classic moment.

I heard Dr Oz saying there are a lot of benefits of pairing broccoli with chicken. I used to hate broccoli when I was a kid because my Mom boiled the life out of it and it tasted nasty to me, especially when she glopped a cream sauce on it, too. UGH! Once I started cooking for myself, I steamed my broccoli and now I just love it. So maybe if some of you who hate broccoli had it prepared a different way you might like it. I found that I like it raw in salads or with dips, too. I still hate brussel sprouts, though.

If you hate brussel sprouts, try roasting them in the oven with olive oil and garlic. Just give it a try, it might work for you

I love all veggies except radishes and beets. Never could find a way to like them.

    How do you roast them?

This sounds wonderful to try and I love brussel sprouts.

I rinse, trim off ends and halve them if they're med-lg sized. Place in roasting pan, drizzle with olive oil, herbs along with salt & pepper if desired. Stir to coat evenly. Bake at 375 for about 30-45mins until desired 'doneness' has been reached. Its more of a hit or miss so you will need to do a taste test to find your preference.

Once they're done, I pull the pan out and drizzle with balsamic vinegar or fresh lemon juice, mix in the pan to coat then place in serving dish. (this is why I opt out of using salt)

I usually add thinly sliced onions and carrot as well - love oven roasted veggies! ENJOY!
