For me, eating about 6 small meals a day, and lifting light weights (5-10 pound dumbells) really helps increase my metabolism...
Also just making the right snacking choices when i feel the urge..I have just a little of the treat I want and fill up on something like carrot or celery sticks..
A BIG help is having workout tapes you can do at home that really motivate and energize you

Denise Austin I like..Kathy Smith tapes have really taught me a lot (like proper form)
Fitday.com has is free to join and you can enter what you eat and it will track the calories/fat/protein/carbs etc for you...it's neat but does take a lot of time for me..
Increasing the time I worked out really helped..I used to do 30 min. a day, but it wasn't helping me really lose weight, just to maintain, so I doubled/trippled that amount sometimes even 2 hours a day I would work out, some days 45 min. then some days I'd rest.. I noticed a big change (weight loss/more toned) when I kept working out past thatt first trickle of sweat, and worked out until i was just covered in a nice slick of sweat all over

(once i lost that weight I now just do 45 min a day usually)
It takes moving around some priorities like sleep, i have to fit it in before ayla wakes up, naps, or after she goes to bed..actually i can usually do yoga or lift weights while she plays near by..
Another BIG help is having healthy prepared foods at your reach all the time. So some nights I'll prepare the next day's food (sandwhich, low fat casserole, and veggies) and put fruit out where I can see it..things like that..
