Dental Pain after Filling
I had a filling done Friday morning - I had not experienced any pain except for a few days, weeks ago - after some tootsie rolls. I've been in excruciating pain all weekend. I've taken aleve, ibuprofen, Abesol 4x a day, and have found some vicoden from surgery last fall that I've been cutting in half and taking. I can't seem to sleep, food not all that appealing to me, little sensitive to cold, no rubbing on other teeth. Nothing really seems to help - any thoughts?

I'd call your dentist, sorry it's a holiday weekend. Don't know how your dentist is but mine would try to see me asap (saw hubby on a holiday once) nobody should be kept in pain like that. Hope you feel better soon.

Agree with above posters. Contact dentist.
Couldn't quite understand...did you eat the tootsie roll after the filling? If so, maybe it pulled part of the filling either loose or out. Maybe the filling cracked.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. Sounds like the root was insulted during the filling but that sounds like quite a bit of pain. Contact the dentist. Some people have a higher sensitivity. Sorry about it ruining the weekend.

Agree with the others........call dentist.
I am reading it that you had the tootsie roll BEFORE you had the filling put in........if so, that wouldn't have done anything, except aggravate the cavity, you had at that time.
Depending on where it was.........and how deep they had to go....it could be sensitive for awhile. But still, I would check on it.

While I agree with the others to call your dentist, I also recommend rinsing your mouth out with salt water (don't know why this helps, but it does) and brushing teeth for the mean time with Sensodyne toothpaste. Sounds like the dentist hit a nerve and may have to go back in and fix it. I've had dental pain after a filling before and this is what he recommended. Hope this helps.

Call your dentist, there should be a recording with an emergency contact number. You may have an infection going on.

Does your tooth feel like it has give to it when you bite down? You many need a root canal. Sometimes a dentist will try to catch a cavity before it reaches the root and not quite make it and instead you end up with an infection in the root. I've been through this once or twice. =/ I've had lots of cavities filled and I"ve never been any pain past a couple hours. What you're feeling isn't normal.

After taking yet another nap yesterday and waking from the pain, I called and left message at dentist - the receptionist got back to me within an hour. She said her standard "take two Advil and an acetominaphen" but did say she talked with the dentist and he is prescribing me an antibiotic.
Taken altogether, the pain meds take the edge off, but I'm still in pain. Can't see me until Thursday morning, though.
This cavity never bothered me, before the tootsie rolls, or in the last couple of weeks.
I've been gargling with saltwater. I've put a heating pad on my cheek. I've flossed like a madwoman. I've done everything short of tear this thing out by my bare hands. The molar feels like its pressing all my other teeth forward.
Thanks for all the advice.Vermont has two seasons: Wintah and the Fourth of July.

Thursday Morning?! I'd be shopping for a new dentist. With you in pain like that I think the least your dentist can do is come in early, stay later or something. Maybe I just have an extra nice dentist ... Hope you get some relief soon.

Call the dentist office THIS MORNING and tell them you are still in major pain and you need to come in immediately. A good dentist will fit you in and NOT make you wait until Thursday.
