I had my uppers removed last year... and I am grateful EVERY day that I did. I would break my teeth on Lays potato chips - and you know how thin those are! I lived off of mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and bread and gravy for years. It took forever to find a dentist willing to pull them, I think I went thru 5? They all felt I was not in as much pain as I said. When doc pulled them (including the 5 root canals <I had a total of 6 root canals done in two consecutive days> he found that several had been cracked for a while and said now he understood why I said to eat hurt!) Now to start working on the lowers...
When they did the uppers they put the dentures in that same day, in fact woke up with them, that was the way to go with me as I smoke also and when I had my wisdom teeth removed got "dry socket" all the time, with the dentures in right away I didnt have that problem
Now a year + later (actually like 2 months later) I dont bother with my dentures too much, I feel like I cant taste the food! But I eat ANY and EVERY thing I want. Including nuts! Gotta say tho I do like a heads up when there are nuts
Because I go without my dentures, I look OLD, hence my name! Daughter said I will make a cute old lady

Had all mine out. I found that a food chopper is your best friend. I chopped everything. I was eating chopped up salads and meats and everything!
When I got my new teeth I made it a point to get some of that Freedent chewing gum and thats how I learned to eat with my dentures. I can eat anything now. Mine fit so well
Hubby had all his out before me and the dentist made him wait like 9 months before he got fitted and new teeth. He never wears them except at work. And even then at lunch and break times he takes them out to eat. He never learned to eat with them in. yuk. He eats everything he wants tho, so whatever works! he doesn't eat nuts except if I chop them up fine for in muffins and cookies, etc.

When mom had her wisdom teeth out very late in life they broke her jaw and wired it shut for 5 weeks. Point being-blender. A blender can be your best friend. Make smoothies and flavored mash. Put veg in mash. Etc.

Hugs to you!! OUCH. Ouch. ouch.
I currently have braces, I feel for you with not being able to eat. Apparently I'm a big wuss when it comes to mouth pain because every one I talk to says, "oh I didn't have that issue with my braces." I don't know if time has passed since they were teens with them (and I am just now getting them for the first time) or I'm just a total wuss but I whine all the time about food that I never knew was hard.
Bread and any sort of tearing-movement with sandwiches
"chewy" granola bars that used to seem soft and chewy to me.
cantaloupe and honey dew. It has to be super-super ripe for me to gum it.
See, I'm whining again. I FEEL FOR YOU!!!LDR
