anemia
I am anemic and Iron Supplements make me sick. I get quesy and light headed on top of chronic constipation. Is there any other ways to boost my iron levels that wont make me feel worse?
I eat alot of iron rich foods also, it just does not seem to help enough.Last edited by maw-p; 06-30-2011 at 11:35 AM.

They have different types of iron supplements and some are specifically for people like you. Have you asked your doctor or pharmacist?

here i copied it
It used to be called "iron-poor blood," but now we know it as anemia. Whatever you call it, one way to help treat it is to eat foods rich in iron (most doctors recommend taking a supplement, too).
To boost the amount of iron in your diet, try these foods:
Red meat
Egg yolks
Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
Dried fruit (prunes, raisins)
Iron-enriched cereals and grains (check the labels)
Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
Turkey or chicken giblets
Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans
Liver
Artichokes
And here's a tip: If you eat iron-rich foods along with foods that provide plenty of vitamin C, your body can better absorb the iron.
it's funny when i was anemic i craved these foods. i would eat boxed cereal by the box, suck down molasses out of the jar, chick peas like crazy, cube steaks.11% gross to retirement

I am anemic as well due to being a vegetarian. I have found that good quality multi-vitamins that are made for dieters help me. They have vitamins/minerals that people who are dieting strictly usually lack, but since I eat like that all the time, I am generally lacking as well.
Try the Women's Metabolism daily multivitamins from GNC. Pricy, but they regularly go on sale for $10 and I swear by them.

Didn't see where you were vegan so start frying up the liver.
The only way I can eat it is to fry it crisp........and bury it in mustard.........only thing I eat mustard on....but it is really rich
in iron.......on the 10 best list.

I am also anemic. I don't take supplements due to they make me really sick. I have gone for iron shots and eat liver as it was going out of style. Check with your doctor though. He might have another suggestion.

When my mother in law had gastric bypass surgery, she developed anemia and had to go on iron supplements. Hers were making her sick and constipated and her iron was still low. I had read a thread here at FV where one of our smartypants nutritionists told us that the iron in cast iron pots and the iron in most supplements wasn't easily processed by our bodies because it wasn't from a natural source, so with that in mind took her to the local supplement store and found her an iron supplement that was very high quality and derived naturally from plant sources. It came as a liquid.
That supplement made a big difference for her. Her iron levels went up and she wasn't constipated any more. Huge, huge difference.
Obviously getting your iron from your food would be best, but if you're eating iron rich foods and you still can't get enough iron, I'd drop the supplements you're using and go to Super Supplements.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

I am definately going to go look for some of these. It is all making me BLUCKKKK, even the multivitamins make me sick feeling. I cook in cast iron every day and I eat iron rich foods, but of course I have to be one of those people whose body is stubborn lol.
I go back to the doctor next week (had to reschedule today's appointment) so I hope maybe we can find something that helps.Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?
