I didn't realize we had so many Thyroid peeps here!
Wow I have looked into a ton of support groups and never thought to look here! I have Hashi's like most people do..... I need to be Gluten Free because my body doesn't accept it.... basically it is what is killing my thyroid... BUT being GF and or grain free is VERY EXPENSIVE...
I would LOVE to here others with it and any advice! I have been on Armour, and Synthroid..... I have Adrenals issues and as some of you know I am an EXTREMELY BUSY single mom... and my health always seems to take the back set =/The Frugal Cavegirl Kim

I have hashimoto's and am Gf as well.
I've been on synthroid for maybe 2 1/2 years. We have lots of Gf threads. Almost wish we had a gluten free or food allergy forum. *cough*

My thyroid was only slightly low when doc put me on synthroid. So I'm not what you would call really a thyroid 'sufferer' of any kind.
I couldn't have told you anything was wrong, I felt fine before the meds. I don't notice any difference on it. He had me get new bloodwork at 6 weeks, haven't heard anything....guess no news is good news.
Found out since then that one of my sisters is on synthroid. Didn't know that. So many people have thyroid problems. What did people do before they tested and treated with meds? Huh.______

Depends on how severe their thyroid problem was. My growth was stunted, I was sleeping all the time, couldn't remember things, crying, clingy, and basically shutting down. My mom insisted that the doctor test my thyroid, turns out it was very low, I was 5 years old and the size of a 3 year old. She was so mad they kept shrugging her off and that she kept letting them.
I still take thyroid medication and the symptoms if I don't have the correct dose, if not getting enough, are: sluggishness, forgetfulness, dry skin in patches all over, tired all the time. Literally half-asleep in life. Its bad.LDR

This is the way I am also.... even with the Med's.... I think my thyroid is still off... I still suffer from panic attacks... I am constantly worrying... Can't remember ANYTHING..... and I sleep most night 9 + hrs... how many adults do you know that can go to bed at 8:30 and sleep until 7? The doctor keeps telling me my numbers are fine........ blah blah... if so than why don't I feel HUMAN! My brain always feels OFF

Right there with you both on the thyoid problems. Mine is good now so I can cope with things, but when it is off OMG I get upset and the drop of a hat.
I too can sleep 12 or 13 hours straight and then drag out of bed like I slept an hour. Have spent the entire weekend in bed before.
I am the only person on both sides of my family to loose any hair. My grandfather died at 77 with all of his.
my skin is always horrible, my nails grow like crazy and are so think I have to use toe nail clippers on them.total debt: $23977.09 updated 04/02/11

FIRST:.....make sure they are running not only the TSH.........but have them do a T3 and T4 blood test..........this tells them how your body is using the drug.
SECOND: try CHANGING the drug..........I tried levothyroxine --(the generic) instead of Synthroid after they lost their lawsuit and the price of it DOUBLED in a year and I can't take it.........don't care WHAT they say about generics.
THIRD:.........and probably one of the most important.........
pay CLOSE ATTENTION to how much SOY you are eating...........this effects thyroid.............and it is in almost EVERYTHING!! Just try to
minimize the amt. you take in each day.........and don't even THINK about drinking soy milk..........etc.

It's not surprising that there are a lot of people here with thyroid issues. 1/3 of all American women will have thyroid problems at some point.

I have Hashimoto, I was diagnosed after my 3rd child was born. I should have been sooner. I was very spacy. I still have moments, but now I can agree it's due to how busy we get and no one but mom tracks anything here... I am training them to do their own now. I need to track the little one and me.
My symptoms were spacy and anemic. I asked to be tested, dr. resisted until he found out my mom, my brother and several aunt and uncles have it. Then it was urgent and 'his idea'. The dr disagreed that my mild thyroid issue would cause it, yet when it was balanced the anemia was gone. He still fought... but I know I was right.
Now, I am very stable, but other health issues, unrelated to thyroid. Those are being worked on.
