Your doctor didn't suggest a baby aspirin or fish oil supplement? My wife has high BP and that is what her doc suggested.

I agree with the fish oil supplements.

I've been reading that aspirin is more effective in preventing a SECOND heart attack, or during a heart attack, than it is if you haven't had one yet. But it never hurts to take one every day.

Cutting extra salt from your diet is easy to do and there are so many non-salt seasoning alternatives these days, not like it was 10 or 20 years ago when there was nothing and you just ate bland food.

Getting out and walking 15-20 minutes helps too, not just the exercise but also the opportunity to be alone with your thoughts and find a few moments of peace during the day.

How wonderful to see someone so young being proactive!! Any age is good to get on board - and of course the younger the better!!

^^^ Agree with that ^^^ AND try to reduce/eliminate caffeine from your diet. Its a sneaky thing to hunt out but once you figure out what has it and eliminate it, it could help lower your overall BP. (coffee/tea, cola, chocolate etc)

Good for you for starting to change things. Also, try aromatherapy, very good way to relieve stress, good smells help. I'm a big believer in holistic ways to deal with stress. Do you exercise at all? It's another good way to deal with stress.

I agree with BlissMommy's suggestion too---try things to stop being so stressed.

When my doc was getting high BP's for awhile, it surprised me---I had always had very LOW BP's. So I did some de-stressing. (talking myself 'down' and trying to make time for relaxing.....deep breathing exercises are really helpful). Voila. BP's back to normal.

This doesn't mean that ONLY doing that will work for you though. Do the other suggestions FV-ers have mentioned here, too.

He put you on a daily aspirin at age 32?? Aspirin is a blood thinner that's only effective at preventing a heart attack as long as it's in your system. There's no reason a 32 year old with slightly high blood pressure needs to be on an aspirin.

Yeah, those 'energy drinks' are poison. My son (age 25) was getting a higher BP and fast resting pulse from them. I usually don't 'get in their biz', but I told him they were BAD for him. He stopped for awhile, but I noticed he bought and drank some while he was here on the 4th of July. Tsk. Not good.
