    Default Feeling very positive(women's thread)

I have mentioned in the past about having a very heavy and long cycle. I tend to be extremely anemic.

I've done alternative medicine and acupuncture, nothing worked.

I recently was referred to our city's top OB.GYN. I was very comfortable. We did a uterine biopsy, it was clean. I had an ultrasound, it was clean. So we discussed options.

    1. birthcontrol pills, with no breaks to stop the cycle.
    2. Mirena IUD
    3. Uterine Ablation
    4. Hysterctomy

I don't like pills, so I didn't like the first one. The last one wasn't an option for me. I don't think it's necessary and the dr. agreed. I was a candidate for ablation as dh has a vasectomy. They won't do an ablation unless your partner has a vasectomy, but due to the fact that I'm like 15 years from menopause, it wasn't likely to be a great decision as in 5 years I could be where I am now. Which left the Mirena IUD. I have had one in the past, and it was brutal, I had bleeding for the full 9 months I had it. But, since my options seemed limited, I decided to try it.

I had the insertion July 27. It was uncomfortable to insert and I had a 15 minute period the next day where the cramps were hideous, but then that all stopped. I had spotting consistently until last week where it was very very light until that stopped altogether.

I had a period in this time, and I use 1/4 of the products I would normally, it was a standard consistent 5 days, not start and stops that took 2 weeks to run through.

I am waiting to see what the next 3 weeks hold, but I have had NO side effects at all. I was told the spotting could last up to 3 months. For just one cycle of spotting, is nothing. I'm very excited, my blood tests should show marked improvement in a few months. My last iron stores score was a whopping 2, dr wants it at 20...lol

I'm posting this as a positive option. I researched and found mostly negative and I wondered why. It came to me, that like with anything in life, bad news travels fast. If it wasn't safe, it wouldn't happen, and since I didn't want anything permanent incase I did want another child, this was the best option for me. Now, it's still early, but i have NO negative side effects, not even the mood swings and acne that are typical of any hormonal treatment. Dr. told me in as little as 6 mo I might not have a period at all... and that would be fine by me. After dealing with what I call a 'violent' period for nearly 8 years, that would be such a blessing.

I had issues with the treatment as it is a form of birthcontrol, and my beliefs are against it. Yes, dh has a vasectomy, it wasn't my choice, I told him I wasn't for it, but he made his decision, its on him, not me. But in asking around, since it's a medical treatment for somthing that was draining my health, it is acceptable. And if we ever decide to have another(it would be a slim chance, but possible), we can.

It sounds as if the treatment is working for you right now. I'm happy for you and I hope it continues.
