    Question Ganglion Cysts

I think I have a Ganglion Cyst on my wrist. Has anyone here had one? How did you get rid of it?

I "thought" I had one once. Went to the Doc and she poked it with a damn needle the size of a McDonalds straw! Ok, not really, but it seemed that big!!
So she aspirated it and it eventually went away.

My middle kid developed a ganglion cyst on the top of her hand after a bad blow to it. We took her to the doctor and they were going to schedule an ultrasound to make sure it was a ganglion cyst and nothing more serious, but before we followed through with it, it went away on it's own.

My mil and her brother for some reason get them all the time. They don't get any treatment for them. I think i have one on my elbow right now but it seems to be going away. I don't know if it's standard to treat it. I think they're usually left alone.

    Is it painful at all?

No, it doesn't hurt at all. It is only the size of a pea. I am just going to keep an eye on it since it is not bothering me.

My doctor told me that they used to get the biggest book in the office and whack them to bust the cyst. Now they only drain them if they bother you. So with that in mind I started pushing on mine. I felt it pop. Every time if filled up again I pushed on it again. Now it is so tiny I don't even bother.

I remember hearing this... I think I was told that it was a bible that they typically used... No thanks!

my got one when i was a kid, She tripped up our only 2 stairs w/ laundry in a basket and broke it.

My DH had one and needed surgery. Let it go awhile and see if it gets bigger. Aspirate at the Dr's. office if not. Most don't need surgery. DH is just an oddity-most of the time.lol

I had one at the base of my left index finger. It was incredibly painful and I had it surgically removed. The orthopedic surgeon I went to was an *ss and got mad when I winced when he numbed the area up. It was excrutiating because I think the needle went all the way through my hand! He had to inject it several times before he removed it...a very unpleasant experience! It needed to go though...too painful to stay!
