Default Wetting hair instead of shampooing

Well, today I finally decided to just wet my hair instead of shampooing it. Over the past two years I have been able to get my head used to not being washed everyday. The problem was when I did this my hair would get plastered against my head sometimes.

A long time ago my hairdresser suggested I just wet my hair in the shower and not shampoo it. She said she did this to her hair. Well after atleast a year of the suggestion I finally did it. And yes, my hair looks like I shampooed it and not plastered against my head. So will definately keep doing this especially during the winter. Not sure how it will go in the summer but will try it.

Anyone else not wash their hair but shampoo it?

If I'm in a rush and want to give my hair added volume while also cutting down on any oils, I sometimes use dry shampoo spray. Just water doesn't work well for my hair type.

I do it all the time. I ride a motorcycle with a do rag and helmet. So when the helmet and do rag come off, my hair is smushed and NOT pretty. I often just wet it and blow it dry the next day and it is fine. As long as it isn't dirty, wetting works just fine.

Yes. I only wash my hair every 3 days. In the summertime, I like run/jog alot , but since I color my hair, the constant washing fades the color. Rinsing my hair with water in the shower removes any perspiration and then I just put a light leave in conditioner in when I get out. I comb through and air dry my hair.

Yes, I use conditioner only in my hair, no shampoo. The conditioner removes dirt, oils & grime and leaves my hair feeling clean without stripping the oils. Day 1 I cleanse hair with conditioner. Day 2 & 3 I rinse with warm water. Then it's time to repeat my pattern! My hair is very soft, not frost, not greasy but easy to style & hold a curl.

Try the conditioner only sometime & let me know what you think!

I only use conditioner. No shampoo. My hair is dry and curly and just water w/ o conditioner is too drying. Shampoo would be a disaster.

Pretty much what you're doing is just rinsing off your hair, and what the big shampoo and "product" companies don't want you to know is that most of the time this is all your hair really needs.

I wash mine 2-3 times a week, depending on whether or not I've been out in the dirty city air.

I cannot go more than 24 hours without washing my hair. If I skip a day, I look like I added four quarts of 10w-30 motor oil to my head. And let me just tell you, that is not a pretty sight.

Which type do you use Sara? I find Suave's to be the best for my hair.

I'm similar to you Neely - when my hair was shorter, it needed to be washed daily. Now that its long, I can almost skip a day.

I started using homemade soap on my hair a ways back. I can sometimes skip, but with all the hot flashes, most of the time I need to wash it every day.

I find that being post menopausal I can wash it less. It used to be super oily but not as much these days.

I find my hair likes being shampoo'd less. It's gotten healthier, shinier, have been able to let it grow out, fix it less... go figure. Was a hairstylist for 9 years, I was honed in on product selling. But... my hair is way far better now that dI on't do so much crap to it. I can go 4 days without shampoo'ing. Will sometimes just condition only in between. Just my 2 cents.

I use TRESemmé for dry shampoo.

I don't like to not wash my hair even a day, but there are times I have to rush out the door, so I'll use the dry shampoo until I can get home. I mostly like it because my hair is thick and wavy. If I go a day without washing, it starts to look flat and without any volume. Like helmet head. LOL The dry shampoo gives it a lift and dries out any oils. Plus, it smells good.

I can't use just conditioner. If I'm going to take the time to use conditioner, I'll just use shampoo or a shampoo/conditioner combo. I've even tried my daughter's detangler in a pinch and that was even worse than water alone. It just smelled nice.

I do that sometimes on my day off & my hair does just fine. You can strip the good oils off your hair if you wash it too much.
