Default Any ideas for knee pain?

I have no idea what I did but the last few days my right knee has been very swollen, kind of warm and sore. It hasn't been a biggie as I have been off work and can stay off it . However I go back tomorrow and I stand all day.

I have tried tylenol , ice and even heat. Any other ideas?

cherry - proven to have natural pain relieving and anti inflammatory properties .
tart cherry comes in juice- concentrate tablets etc ..

an xray to rule out an injury might be a good idea too if you have insurance .

Thanks so much for your speedy answer!

What is the active ingredient in Motrin? I have several store brand pain relievers.

I will see if I can find the cherry tomorrow after work when I am in town.

I do have insurance. It is just bizarre as I did nothing that I know of and just woke up with it sore a few days ago. Last night to sleep I took half of a Vicodin that was hubbys as it was really throbbing.

    ibuprofen = advils- motrin
if i feels warm you may be getting a cellulitis and you dont wan o mess with that . last year my dh got " roofers knee" which was a cellulitis without an actual wound they can ID frequently seen on roofers because they are on their knee so much .

they also had to rule out a blood clot for him via an US because his lower leg swelled also .

he waited over a weekend didnt let me know what was up hid it from me and ended up needing 3 dr vs in 1 week ( 30$ co-pay) xrays ultrasound and and almost ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics .

so watch for any increased redness or warmth if so you should be seen .

Thanks that is all good to know. Yeah, I have the right kind you are recommending. I have no cuts etc. I did spend a lot of Sat night in a Jacuzzi. I am so sorry to hear that happened to hubby. I will keep on eye on the warmth and redness. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Ibuprofen will help reduce the swelling and inflammation. The fact that the area is warm means it is very inflamed. Inflamation causes damage to surrounding tissues. Put ice packs on it for 15 minutes at a time 3x a day. From the sound of it, it will take a week or more for it to heal.

Heat feels good, but does nothing for the inflammation.

I tore a hamstring last year, with symptoms similar to what you describe, it took 4 months to heal.

You can look up muscle diagrams on the internet and see if you can figure out where you hurt yourself, and then look up treatments. Most of them will say ibuprofen and ice packs.

You can also get a wrap-around knee brace at any drug store. That helped me a lot.

my Dh has had a problem with knee swelling in the past. he did ibprofen and rest to get it down and then doc gave him some stretches to work on to keep it from flaring up again.

Did you do any jumping, twisting or stair climbing? If the when you push your finger to your skin along the side of your knee, are you leaving an impression that lasts? I'm wondering if you've damaged cartilage and thus have water on your knee.
If you can elevate while you sleep, sometimes bent at a 45 degree angle, will sometimes relieve the pain.
Could also be an acl tear or strain if you've done any running or lifting/climbing, although swelling isn't as common for that injury as is the cartilage.
Wishing you a pain free night.
    It is what it is.

I had the very same thing a couple of months ago----I did a lot or research on it and one possibility is gout. I always thought gout was in a toe, but it can be in any joint.

Whatever it was, it finally subsided after about 7-10 days.

Thanks. I climb lots of stairs daily. It is much much less swollen. I have discovered it feels much worse bent 90 degrees as in when sitting. thanks again

I have heard of gout but thought old men got it. Kind of silly and I don't know why I thought that. Whatever it is the swelling is down so I am grateful. So what did you do for it?
