Look up the movie "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead." You don't necessarily have to watch the movie (though it is inspiring), but there is a link to their community there, along with reviews of many juicers.
Most people seem to advise against the cheaper ones, so you're looking at $150 to $300 and up for a good one.Use it up, Wear it out,

Can someone clarify the diff between a juicer and a smoothie? (I feel silly for asking)

I want to start, but I need a juicer. I do have a fancy blender that chops things up pretty good. I might try that first before investing in a juicer.

While masticating juicers are supposed to be better, because they don't heat up, I found a relatively inexpensive and super-efficient juicer for my mother. It is:
Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor
Got it from Amazon and we tested it out at Mom's house. I like a couple of things about it: a) big feed chute [can put whole small apples in without slicing/seeding]; b) super easy to clean; and c) relatively inexpensive for a good juicer [$100 vs. standard GOOD juicer running about $250+].
If you are looking for a juicer, one of the biggest things you should look for is ease of use and cleaning. If it isn't easy to use or easy to clean, you will not use it.
Personally, I have an Omega, and I LOVE it, but it wasn't cheap!
