Question Do you have any plans on how to

Stop eating those foods you crave and are sure you must have?

I've been thinking on this all day as our neighbour gave us a box of Turtles (not fair) and wondering how I'm going to do this.

What suggestions might you all have?

Purge your home of those Bad (Red Light-chocolate), Wonderful things that are calling your name. Don't just throw the box in the trash, open the box and then dump the stuff in the garbage can.

Not frugal, but we don't need them the house or in sight anyway.

Ok, I am going to fess up here. Yes I have been bad today. I have had 3 pieces of fudge. (So I guess I am really not one to be giving any advice)

I don't plan on stopping. I plan to cut back. I figure if I am eating properly and drinking my water I won't "crave" my favorite junk foods as much. I can't cut out my favorites because then I feel deprived and then none of my goals will happen with that type of thinking.
I bought some animal crackers to snack on. A handful of those are much less in calories than a handful or two of chips.
Are you able to eat just one turtle?

I have to admit that this week there aren't any sugary or high calorie snacks in my house, so she may be onto something. I shouldn't encourage eating just one without knowing your strengths/weaknesses with snacks.

Are you able to eat just one turtle?

Ummmmmm were not going to answer this one or say just how many Turtles have been consumed here today.

I do agree with cutting back because I don't want to deprive myself also, but I'm thinking it might be wise to have far fewer of those "yummies" in the house. I did go and purchase some carrots this afternoon and snacked on them but those dang Turtles!!!

I keep figuring if they get eaten all in one day, then I won't be tempted again.

That's my opinion on the remnants of my last bag of Rold Gold pretzels and the last of the pepsi.. if I get rid of it tonight, I'll have it out of my way...

We had dinner at our fave smorgasboard tonight.. but I limited myself to two trips, NO beef, and only half a serving of ice cream... Normaly on Saturday nights we stop at KFC on the way home to pick up chicken to have after church on Sunday... tonight we went home right past the best KFC in the area, and we DID NOT STOP! Not that I can take the glory though... Dh has better will power than me

    My solutions include:

Letting myself have a little bit of what I crave but that i know isn't the best for me...I also justify letting myself have a little when I workout a lot..If I don't workout during the day, then I try to keep my food as healthy as possible.

After I have that little bit, if I still crave it, I fill up on water, and just smell the aroma of that devilish food

I also try to eat less than the 'serving size' since junk food is the smallest on the pyramid..and the serving sizes always seem too generous...

I bake my brownies and cakes with applesauce, and a drizzle of oil..so that I can feel better about eating a normal sized peice or two..

If I were faced with the Turtle problem you are, I would toss about half the box, and then just slowly savor each piece, in fact I might even just cut the rest I have left, in half and put them all in the spaces that are then empty so it still looks full And I'd savor one half peice each night...something to that effect...

I am going to start Weight Watchers again. I can eat everything I just need to keep in my point range. I wish I could do it myself without going to meetings. But being weighed at the meetings once a week keeps me honest.

This is my problem. I cannot have JUST ONE....in my mind I liken it to an alcoholic and not being able to have just one drink. I know they are on way opposite ends of the spectrum, and I am in no way trying to minimize alcoholism, I'm just saying that that's how I feel with sweets and snack foods. If there is something in the house that I want to eat and know I shouldn't, I will eat it and find a way to rationalize what I've done. I've got issues.

How about having Tootsie rolls in place of regular chocolates? It is still high in sugar but at least has little to no fat. I have a bag of tootsie rolls stashed away. I will need it since I am such a chocoholic.

i keep all the choc. i want to eat in the fridge..it taked longer to eat and it tastes really good..and i buy the snack size because 4 small pieces still dont equal 1 reg size candy bar..

and i also eat "real" food when hungry and i eat as much as i want(provided its not high fat) and can normally stop when satisfied.

I found thast eating sugar free-jello with a nice sized dollop of homemade whipping cream made with splenda did the trick. Then I went to the store one day and saw that whipped cream in the can even comes in chocolate, havent tried it yet. On Atkins you can have a cup of homemade cocoa made with an artificial sweetner. That did the trick for my chocolate craving, but I did not have many, my appetitewas at an all time low.

I guess what I'm saying here though, is I don't want to replace the junk food with other food, be is low fat food or even veggies for that matter. What I want to become a habit is when I'm wanting that junk food to find something else to do so that the eating stops.

Most of the time when I'm wanting junk food and the likes, I'm not even hungry. kwim
