Do you know how to swim?
I took lessons in summer camp when I was a kid. How about you--do you know how to swim? Do your children?
I am thinking of sending Kathryn for swimming lessons this summer if I can find a program for her at the Y.

I was about 5 or 6 when I learned, my uncle threw me in the lake. It was either sink or swim, not a nice way to learn.
I taught grade school children (the ones that were terrified of the water) when I was in high school.~~ Dee ~~

I can swim but don't get to go very often. I even learned how to waterski the first and only time I ever went, I even got up my first try
. My daughter swims like a fish, her dad's parents have a house on the lake but now that she's grown she won't swim in the lake says it's nasty..lol.

I do but I'm not the best but I do like to. I learned when I was younger - my mom put me and my sister in lessons during the summer.

Yes, I took lessons when I was a kid at our local pool. They were free at the time. They now charge about $30 per kid for 2 weeks of lessons. I perfected my technique as the years went by, but I've also taught several kids to swim and actually have found that I have a real knack for it.

Yes, my kids started learning at the same lake I did many years ago. When we moved I made sure they were enrolled in classes to learn all they needed to know to enjoy the water safe & sound. They both stopped just before lifesaving courses. A very important skill in my opinion.
No matter what your age , go for it & learn to swim. Don't be shy because there are lots of adults learning too! It's fun and more fun! You will feel so great overcoming your fear of swimming!

When I was a kid I loved to go to the local pool. I wanted to learn how to swim but we didn't have the money for lessons. I would go to the pool about an hour before it opened and watch the other kids take lessons. I would then go in and practise what I saw before the pool opened.
Werkt fur me.

Yes!! I swam in competition from the time I was 5 until I was 19. I got my WSI (water safey instructor) and Adapted WSI (to teach physically and mentally handicapped) and taught swimming lessons. I was a lifegaurd during the summers and when we moved here to California (I was 19) I was offered a job to be an assistant swim coach with a local team. I also taught swimming lessons. I basically lived in a bathing suit from the time I was 2 or 3 until I was about 21. Believe it or not, I have not been in a swimming pool in almost 20 years!!!!!! I really need to get back in the pool, it is fantastic exercise!!!

I can, but getting me in a bathing suit these days would be an impossible feat, LOL! I took lessons when I was younger, but I am not a strong swimmer. I love the water though!

I am a really awful swimmer. DH, Dks and our grandkids are all pretty good swimmers, except Laine of course!! I need to put her in swimming lessons this summer.

I took swim lessons when I was a kid and then was on the swim team. My kids also took swim lessons and the youngest three have been on the swim team every summer for the past five years.

We can all swim except Dakota. He even took swim lessons, but is afraid of the water. He is getting better. He can swim under water a very short distance.
