Calcium's Surprising Connection with Weight Loss
Calcium's Surprising Connection with Weight Loss
by Ruth Therrien
What could calcium have to do with losing weight?
Dietary calcium can actually decrease fat storage! This is according to a study that was done at the University of Tennessee - by Michael Zemel, Ph.D.
Calcium was determined to be linked with other hormones that help to maintain metabolism and blood circulation. When your diet is low in calcium, those hormones may STOP the breakdown of fat, causing the body to store more fat cells! You can get your daily dose of calcium with three to four servings of foods like yogurt, cottage cheese or milk. (Naturally, choose the fat-free or low-fat variety!) Another great source of calcium is kale. (I don't know about you, but I didn't know this before reading this study!)
As with most vitamins and nutrients, the best source for your body is through the foods you eat - not through pills. However, you can take a calcium supplement, if necessary. It is recommended that women consume 1200 mg. of calcium daily.
A study by the National Institutes of Health has found that many women consume less than half of that amount each day.
In addition to decreasing fat, calcium is essential for building strong bones and teeth, reducing colon-cancer risk, hypertension and many PMS symptoms.

I've been researching coral calcium and the affects on our bodies. There is a scientist who has discovered that if you take enough calcium and vitamin D that your body will keep it's correct Ph level and cancer cannot survive in a well oxygenated body. He also lists lupus (thinking of Carolyn here), asthma, diabetes, and more. I have ordered a couple of his books and his Supreme Coral Calcium. You can listen to the story at http://www.robertbarefoots-coralcalciumsupreme.com/
I will begin to monitor my Ph level as soon as I get my Ph test strips.
Getting out in the sunshine is a good thing too as it helps your body to naturally produce vitamin D so that your small intestine can absorb the calcium. I am still in the midst of reading his book The Calcium Factor and so far it is fascinating. Next I'll be reading Death By Diet.
