A wonderful testament to a young girl and courage
Here is what sport should be all about.
Teen abandons race to help injured skier
The Canada Winter games are taking place in New Brunswick and a young skier was in the race of her life. She had practiced for 2 years to be able to participate in this race.
She never finished the race, never won a medal but has won the hearts of all officials, all participants and all spectators.
While travelling with a group of skiers about halfway through the women's 10 kilometre pursuit, she came upon another race, sprawled unconscious in a heap at the base of a steep hill. She stopped immediately and asked if she was okay and when she didn't respond, while the other raced toward the finish line, she skied back up the hill to notify course volunteers. She then returned to the injured skiers side and waited with her until the help arrived.
That is what sportsmanship is all about. A young lady, giving up her dreams, to help an injured skier. My hat goes off to her!!! She proved that not only is she an outstanding athelete, but one of our country's finest citizens.
btw - the injured skier spent the night in the hospital and is fine now.
