Thumbs up For us older ladies - a word of encouragement

Carolyn said something in one of her posts about wishing she had taken care of her body more when she was younger. Wow, pretty profound statement and one I wish I had done too.

But I'm a firm believer in that it is never too late to start. For every 10 lbs. we drop, our b/p drops. For every 10 lbs. we drop, we help our hearts. For every mile we walk, were helping our hearts.

My mom at 76 lost 40 lbs. and walks about 3 miles everyday. Not only does she look good, she feels good. She has chronic bronchitis and since she lost the 40 lbs. and is down to 130 lbs. she has never felt better and her bronchitis has almost cleared up. Her coughing has almost stopped!!! Her b/p is now normal.

Its never too late to start. We all know the best time to start is when your young, but many of us didn't take care of US!!! Now is the time to start - don't put it off until tomorrow or the next day. Begin today by taking a good hard look at yourself and saying I will begin today to take care of me. I will change my eating habits. I will begin walking or excersising.

Lets encourage each other has we journey in our LFL program. How about it?

Thanks for the encouraging post!! I heard on the radio station here yesterday that, walking does not do any good. You have to have "vigorous" excercise in order for it to do any good. I have been so discouraged since I heard that even though I really do not believe it.

Any movement (walking and stairs and hill climbing for me) is a good thing IMHO. I have been sedentary for too long and just "getting up and getting moving" is a great improvement for me.

I was so angry that they would broadcast that, because I think that, while I am not doing alot compared to others, I am doing something which I was not doing before, and anything is better than nothing

Thanks for being here for me and for all the encouragement you give

Thanks CJ for posting this. I do need to get moving more! Especially since all the health problems I've had so far this year.
I will start tomorrow (it's dark outside and I scared of the dark) LOL.

Halo475 - I totally disagree with that radio announcement, in fact someone needs to get ahold of them and tell them to check out information before they put something like that on the radio.

In the city I moved from, there is a heart centre where you go after you have heart attacks and the very first excersise they get you doing is walking. Any information I have read or heard states 30 minutes of excersise, at least 3 times a week, does you good!! There is nothing in there about "vigorous", in fact I've read and heard where "vigorous" can often cause harm.

My family physician told me to walk, do my bike and swim (which I don't do because I don't know how to swim). I will continue walking, knowing that I am making drastic improvements to my wieght and my body.

    Check these out:

    http://walking.about.com/library/day...walkoflife.htm

http://walking.about.com/library/weekly/aa010900a.htm (here it will tell you how fast to walk, etc.)

    http://www.racewalk.com/newBook/pdefault.htm

Those are just a few. There are many different sites that talk about walking, how it lowers b/p, how it helps the heart.

I think this radio station is bonkers!!!!

Keep up your walking, knowing that you are helping your body!! Halo, your doing great!!!

Aww thanks homesteadingmama The more I think about that program the angrier I get, and I emailed the programming manager this morning giving him 2 of the websites you posted, that I had visited before. (the ones at About.com-I am off to check out the other one)

    I am awaiting his response.

In my heart of hearts (no pun intended- ) I know I am on the right track, but it always does me good to hear encouragement and still cannot believe they would broadcast something so discouraging

    Thanks
