Help me stock my medicine cabinet
I've never really had what I'm sure others consider "must-haves" in my medicine cabinet. I usually just go out and buy things as we need them. However, I am looking to put things in my cabinet like hydrogen peroxide, ipecac, etc. Please help me come up with a list to stock up. TIA!

I have all the usuals-lots of extra sinus and cold meds since I hate to run out when one of us is sick. I do not keep ipecap in the house--last time I went to first aid class they stressed that with most poisons it is not safe to use-so I just have a list with the poison control number on it.

I'm like you, I don't usually buy it unless I need it right then. But for my ds, I make sure to keep bandaids, neosporin, some sort of fever reducer (since they always seem to hit at 2 in the AM), cold meds. I don't use Ipecac either, since most everything says "if swallowed, do not induce vomiting".
For me and dh, I keep stocked up on Nyquil, Tums and aspirin. I'm not one to just go out and buy meds "just in case I may need them"- usually by the time I need them, it's past it's experation date. So these basics work for us.

I'd make sure to have some bandaids and neosporin on hand. Maybe a bottle of hydrogen peroxide too.

I'm bumping up this post because I just found a list of "must-haves" on Babycenter.com's website (written for someone with babies in the family, but the rest is also good to have on hand even if you don't have kids):
Infant / child thermometers (both digital and ear or rectal)
• Children's and infants' non-aspirin liquid pain reliever (acetaminophen), as recommended by your pediatrician
• Topical calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream (1/2 percent) for insect bites and rashes
• Rubbing alcohol to clean thermometers, tweezers, and scissors
• Petroleum jelly to lubricate rectal thermometers
• Hydrogen peroxide to clean cuts and scrapes
• Antibacterial cream, also for cuts and for scrapes
• Tweezers for splinters and ticks
• A pair of sharp scissors
• Child-safe sunscreen lotion (click here for details on baby sun safety and sunscreen guidelines)
• Child-safe insect repellent
• Pediatrician-approved children's-strength liquid decongestant
• Nasal aspirator bulb (not the pointy ended ear syringe)
• An assortment of adhesive bandage strips in various sizes and shapes. (Since there are children in the house, get the less sticky kind.)
• Gauze rolls (1/2 to 2 inches wide)
• Gauze pads (2x2 and 4x4 inches)
• Adhesive tape
• Sterilized cotton balls
• Cotton-tipped swabs
• Mild liquid soap (most antibacterial and deodorant soaps are too strong for babies' sensitive skin)
• An oral syringe or calibrated cup or spoon for administering medicines to infants and children
• A package of tongue depressors to check sore throats
• A heating pad
• A hot-water bottle and ice pack
• A small flashlight to check ears, nose, throat, and eyes
• First-Aid manual.
There is also a list of other items that you might like to have on hand if recommended by doctor.

Ds's pediatrician also stressed to us that we should not purchase this to keep in our home.
