    Default Neti-pots

Has anyone ever tried a neti-pot? I bought one today after a friend had raved about how it helped her. If you have never heard of them, they are a pot you fill with saline solution. You then cleanse your nasal cavity with them. It is kind of gross but the ladies at the health food store both praised theirs too. It is supposed to help with alergies and such. I'll let you know how it works for me. I have done it twice already today and do seem to have a little less drainage. I am willing to try anything at this point I feel so lousy!

Haven't found a neti pot, but it would make the whole nasal irrigation thing a little easier. I know from my own experiance how much better I feel when I keep that area rinsed and clean.

the recipe for the saline and soda water solution (makes it less like getting swimming pool water up the nose) is here in this thread on nasal irrigation. Nasal washings to reduce allergy symptoms

    it's wonderful for allergies.

and if you have a cold or sinus infection use a few drops of tea tree oil in it too.

I've heard of these and have given thought to getting one but could never find anyone who had really tried them. Now I think I'll really be on the look out for one and give it a try. Thanks.

I want to get one of those really bad. The price isn't too bad.

I'm so glad it is helping you. I have sinus problems w/chronic infections and asthma and I snore loud enough to wake the dead and I wake up choking alot. I really need to get one and try it. Thanks for the links and all the information on it.

Keep us updated on how it is working.

bumping up as a help for anyone doing the nasal washings.

I still don't bother with a neti pot, I find just running tap water up when I wash my face or take a shower (pinch upper bridge of nose, aim GENTLE shower spray up and blow out gently as the water washes the nasal passage-- works like a charm)

My methods take a little practice to learn, but the neti pot would make it simple for beginners.

I've been doing this for a few years, at least- really got into it when I was pregnant with DD and couldn't take allergy medications.

Like Margery, I don't use a neti pot, either. I just use anything I can put the solution in, then (TMI WARNING) tip and snort. Works like a charm.

you know it occurs to me, like a brain wave of sorts, that a person could buy a tea pot from the dollar store (neti pots are shaped like a glorified tea pot) and just dedicate it for this use.

    seriously!

NOW you can get all grossed out!!!!!

but honestly if you can't find a neti pot, grab a tea pot in some yucky colour or design from the dollar store, and label it well so family doesn't accidently use it for tea and swish your troubles away!

Ive been using a neti pot for a few years now. It helps, I dont get the nasal infections (& ear) I use to. It takes some practice though once you get it its easy.

Mine is made of ceramic and Ive broken a couple over the years. I'll have to keep an eye out for a mini stainless steel watering can or tea pot types, great tips! THanks
