My first asthma attack
I had a small asthma attack today!! I've never had one before. I went to where I've been doing my clinicals. We think it was a combination of several things. I got a breathing treatment and she prescribed me an inhaler. I got an EKG and it was ok. I also had a Strep throat test, because I've had a sore throat. I also have an ear infection. I hope all this goes away soon.

Oh no, Heather!
Asthma is no fun at all...
I had my first attack when I was 31....
I hope your treatment is helping you breath better.
I hope you feel better soon.

Heather take care of yourself and stay away from any cleaning products right now like purex. I know they are scary, I have them too.

How scary! I was diagnosed with asthma at 24 and rather than a hypo chondriac I was in denial. My first attack was enough to convince me.
Keep your meds close. I was given the name of Rescue Remedy and I plan on checking it out.

I've been an asthmatic for a long time. when I was little I used to scare my mum because I couldn't breathe, there were no inhalers then. The treatment was an injection of adrenaline, and you being a nurse, Heather, will know how drastic that is. I remember being a teenager and borrowing a motorcycle to drive around so I could get enough air to breathe. Many nights I lay awake because I could relax enough to sleep.
After inhalers came in I was fine. But the big thing that changed me was to go and live in Germany. I didn't have asthma at all while I was there and for almost 20 years after I came back. It's back again now and I've had it since we moved into this house. So it's either something in the house or in the bush around here.
My advice is to never go out anywhere without your puffer and to try to reduce the dose of it, or the amount of times you use it, as much as you can. And as Carolyn said, stay away from chemicals as much as you can.

I know firsthand how scary those attacks can be. I had my first one as an adult also. One of the things that has helped me is rebuilding my immune system through good nutrition and supplements. My son no longer has attacks and mine rarely occur any more.

I was diganosed a little over a year ago with asthma. It is really a scary thing. I was on an inhaler and a daily pill. This spring I started using a Netti Pot and now only need my inhaler on occation. Not being able to breathe is a horrifying experience.
Good luck with yours and alway carry your inhaler.

I also have asthma really bad. I find taking care of yourself one of the most important things. That way if you get a cold or flu you are strong and healthy to fight it off. Take care. I know it can feel scary.

My son seemed to be having wheezy bronchitis-type episodes more and more frequently, and these would occur regularily at the tail end of a cold. I started giving him a multivitamin and B6 supplement(50mg) every day, and his immune system really seemed to get stronger. He rarely has colds these days and hasn't had any wheezing episodes in a couple years. I personally believe that the B6 is helping his body be able to fight off things.
Good luck to you and try to take good care of yourself.

Oh, and I also take and give my dd a daily multivitamin and a balanced B50(time released) supplement daily. We rarely get sick with anything.
