Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome....
It totally sucks. I've lived with this for about 17 years (even though I didn't know thats what was wrong with me way back when..)

Birth control pills help some. I was taking metaformin (sp) before I got pg with my last baby.I then found out I have hypothyroidism and stopped the metaformin because I was put on meds for the thyroid....I never did ask if it was safe to take both, just hated the idea of being on 2 meds for the rest of my life.Originally posted by halo475

I have also taken aldactone....it helped some but takes a long time to notice.
My biggest issue with PCOS is the weight gain and facial hair.Well,Ok I hate it all.But these 2 bother me more lol
I was also told by my ob/gyn that the only "cure" was removing the ovaries. My Dr wouldn't because he says I'm to young. I think it should be my choice and not his....he has NO clue what I go through everyday with this.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in Oct 2005. I am taking yasmin which regulates my period, reduces my weight by a pound per month so far, and even helps with my mood.

I found out this past summer that I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance... the two had conspired to totally stop my periods for six months at a time, which is a problem when you want more kids!
Being treated with meds for the insulin resistance has helped a lot-- my cycles are regular, and my overall health has improved.
I don't suffer with a lot of the other PCOS symptoms (yet) and the doc hasn't actually found any cysts-- she determined my diagnosis based on lab work and other symptoms. I have the skin spots and the rapid weight gain issues, but, I'm managing as best I can for now.

This is an old thread but I'm new
I was diagnosed with PCOS after my DD was born because I had all the classic symptoms. I was sorta diagnosed with it in 2001 but it was by a free clinic doctor who was like yah, you have it...sucks to be you...hope you didnt' want kids. Luckily I have a wonderful gyno now who is very educated on it. We are working on trying to concive our next child...I don't ovulate and the fact that I got preg the first time was an absolute MIRACLE. We've been trying for 1.5 years now and this summer I'm going to get my first round of fertility drugs unless the healthy eating and weight loss work first.

I have some form of it and I can't take the pill bc it makes me sick! So I just wait around for my period and if I don't get it I have to take meds every 4 months to bring it on. Also being that I have been off BC for 3 yrs I haven't gotten prego, I am young and married a year, my worst fear is not getting prego!

glucophage rocks!
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I have pcos.... I don't menstrate, but I do ovulate... I haven't menstrated in years. I also became pregnant with my son without a period. Weird huh? Insulin does nothing for me, and I don't get my menses (sp) with the pill. I have a random period every couple years.

I have a mild form of it. Along with endometriosis, it's been an uphill battle to try to get pregnant. I didn't even find out I had either until I had been trying to conceive for a year and went in to see what was wrong.
Thankfully, I found that I ovulate every month and respond well to fertility meds.

I also have PCOS. I've been diagnosed for 14 years, doctors discovered I had it when I was 13 years old. On birth control for 13 years. I gained weight very rapidily- over 150 extra pounds over the course of 9 years. I have most symptoms. I don't know if I ovulate though bacause I've never been pregnet but I've also never "really" tried. I can't ry until March of 2010.
