    Default Stairs for a workout?

Something I've considered doing on my noon hour if/when it is wretched weather out and I can't get in a walk -- could I go up and down our flight of stairs for a period of time? We are on the second floor of this building, and there are two short flights of about 10 stairs each. I thought if I walked up and down for several minutes this would be 1) different from the normal walk I do and 2) better than nothing on a day when I can't get outside on my noon hour. Have any of you or do any of you do this?

A doctor I used to work with did this all the time. Well, actually, he ran up and down the stairs- they weren't used often as the led from our area (the lab) to the morgue. He did this when he took a lunch break. And he was in GREAT shape. I do wish he still worked there- it was kinda' fun watching him run up and down those stairs! (LOL- actually, he was always sweaty, so it was really pretty gross!)

I don't know the exact calorie count, but I am sure anything that elivates your heart rate would be GREAT!

Wow, Kimberly, that doctor must have been in terrific shape. I was thinking MAYBE I could manage 15 - 20 minutes of going up and down the stairs. Did he use his entire lunch period for that?

These stairs aren't used too often -- more like sporadically. I worried that the folks underneath the stairs would not enjoy my use of them, but I understand there is a closet under the stairs. I'll let you all know how this goes.

I used to do this--- a couple of the docs and I would RUN up and down the stairs on our 1/2 hour lunch break. 16 flights up and down, twice.

I can barely make it up 2 flights now- at a walk. Bad joints and major weight gain.
